Steve Carter Group

High energy Jazz with a healthy dose of East Bay Funk thrown in. Modern creative tunes and lots of wide open jamming.

In the early 80’s I became a first call piano player in the thriving Bay Area funky-Latin-Jazz scene. I was Pete Escovedo’s piano player for several years. I also worked with Pete’s brother Coke’s band, Sheila E., Ray Obiedo’s band, Linda Tillery, Bill Summers and Summers Heat, Andy Narell, Billy Cobham, Vicki Randle, Malo and many others. I also lived in Tokyo for 8 months and played with Japanese fusion artist Miyaura Kiyoshi. – CDBaby.com

Google G1 Phone

Until now, Apple’s iPhone has been the only touch-screen phone, with serious Internet and computing capabilities, that has been worth buying.  Google’s newly announced phone, which runs on Android, seems to be the next big thing that will compete with the iPhone. – Lockergnome.com

Go here, for more details about the new “Google G1” cellphone.

Jamie Baum

Jamie Baum

Jazz flutists are rare: Eric Dolphy, Hubert Laws, James Newton, and Kent Jordan, come to mind as some of the best and brightest on that instrument. With her new release and Sunnyside debut CD, Solace, the critically acclaimed flutist/composer/bandleader Jamie Baum joins that illustrious list.

Backed by her long-standing septet featuring trumpeter Ralph Alessi, saxophonist/bass clarinetist Douglas Yates, French horn virtuoso Vincent Chancey, pianist George Colligan, bassist Johannes Weidenmueller, and drummer Jeff Hirshfield, Baum delivers an impressive CD that is the definitive display of her all-encompassing talents and is comprehensive in its musical scope. – Amazon.com

Jarez

Jarez

Jazz saxophonist, Jarez ( born Jarel Posey),  provides the perfect balance to Coolio’s edge.  The worlds of hip hop and jazz combine as the two merge to become a united front.  On Jarez’s new album, “To The Top,” one hears an incredibly gifted musician raising his game, and redefining what a jazzman can do in the 21st century. The 20-something, Inglewood, CA native dispels any notion of jazz not being relevant to a younger generation. – Makeda Smith/jazzmynepr.com/
