Miles Davis, Sketches

Miles Davis, Sketches of Spain

The crown jewel of the epic Evans/Davis triptych that began with MILES AHEAD and PORGY AND BESS, SKETCHES OF SPAIN is as emotionally compelling as any performance in the trumpeter’s remarkable body of works.

Gil Evans’ immense canvas of orchestral colors inspires some of Davis’ most deeply felt solo flights. He paints vast vistas of velvety, shimmering night sounds, and through it all runs the mountainous backbone of Spain’s native rhythms and chants.

Tenor saxophonist Ravi Coltrane has put the finishing touches on his long-awaited new recording “BLENDING TIMES” which is set for release on the Savoy Jazz label on January 13th. The follow up to the Grammy-nominated “In Flux” (a recording Ben Ratliff of the New York Times placed at #3 on his Top Ten Jazz Recordings of 2005), Coltrane again performs primarily with his stellar quartet consisting of Luis Perdomo on piano, Drew Gress on bass and E.J. Eric Kurimski | Réplica [Afro-Peruvian/Nu-Voices/2008]

Eric Kurimski, is New York’s most sought after guitarist for Afro Peruvian music.  He holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Jazz from SUNY Purchase and the Aaron Copland School of Music in New York respectively. In 2002 he began intense studies of Afro Peruvian rhythms with the esteemed guitarist, the maestro Carlos Hayre (Carlos has influenced and modernized the advancement of Afro-Peruvian music from the 1940’s through the present day.)  Carlos became Eric’s professor/ mentor and proved to be very important for his musical career.

Now, fusing his knowledge of Jazz with rhythms of Peru and Latin America, Eric has dedicated himself to defining a new sound integrating the Peruvian Cajon (box) as the principal percussion instrument in a Jazz setting. ~ CDBaby.com
