Terje Lie | Urban Vacation – [Open All Nite Entertainment/T Cat Records – 2010]

Terje Lie - Urban Vacation

In 2009, Saxophonist Terje Lie hooked up with multi-Grammy winner Jimmy Haslip of the Yellowjackets and legendary keyboardist/composer/producer Jeff Lorber to make a new album. The result is Urban Vacation, which gave rise to a fascinating collaborative process that sparked what became a truly adventurous, R&B-driven jazz fusion date. A CD that goes far beyond the general contemporary or smooth jazz album, Urban Vacation should strike jazz fans of all stripes as more organic and adventurous than the typical sax recordings coming out these days. Haslip, Lie, and Lorber all contribute to the writing process and features the playing of Haslip and Lorber on all tracks along with Tony Moore on drums. Guitarists Mike Landau and Dwight Sills, bassist Ernest Tibbs, and drummer Jeff Olson are also featured on selected tracks.

Release Date: 2/16/2020

Teddy Presberg | Blueprint of Soul – [Ropeadope/Outright Music – 2007]

Teddy Presberg - Blueprint of Soul

Often compared to the funky, soulful jazz musicians such as Grant Green and Eddie Harris, you also hear artists such as The White Stripes and Beck influence his sound. His music is fresh, ever evolving, and lays out his immediate and unfiltered response to our society and times.

He’s not flashy with in-your-face chops. He can own one note, and with that note, you know exactly what he means. Teddy plays for the moment, never repeating himself – risking the falls to reach the musical highs.

Teddy’s debut solo album “Blueprint of Soul” consists of songs written in a stream of consciousness, tracks done in one take, and unforgettable improvisational grooves. The result is a funky Friday-night record that you’ll put on before, during, and after the party. To much acclaim, the album was named a Critic’s Pick Top 10 Album of 2007 by All About Jazz.

Teddy Presberg is currently touring with his his new band: The Red Note Revivalists. Visit the gigs page to find out when this music is coming to a venue near you!

Gil Scott-Heron | I’m New Here – [XL Recording – 2010]

Gil Scott Heron - I'm New Here

Gil Scott-Heron is one of the most influential and important singer/songwriters to have come out of America in the second half of the last century. Much can be said about why this Gil’s lyrics are so original and powerful but ,it is important not to overlook his utterly singular voice which is so distinctive and rough and tender. It is a voice of experience. A new record from Gil Scott-Heron, forty years after his first solo album, is a cause for major celebration and something that the world needs now more than ever.

On 8th /9th February 2010, Gil Scott-Heron will release his new album “I’m New Here” on groundbreaking independent label XL Recordings. Produced by XL label owner Richard Russell, “Im New Here” is Scott-Heron’s first album in thirteen years.

“I’m New Here” sees Scott-Heron reflecting on his life with his trademark vocal power and insight, sharing his visions among Russell’s flickering, electronic soundscapes.

The pair started recording the album in 2007, with the majority of the record being recorded over the last twelve months in New York at Clinton Studios.

Release Date: 2/9/2010
