Charnett Moffett - Treasure

Charnett Moffett -|- Treasure – [Motéma Music, 2010]

For musicians, compositions are precious reflections of the soul – aural snapshots of emotions, reflections and conceptions covering broad swaths of human expression and experience. Each offering allows the musician a new opportunity to communicate on varying wavelengths – conscious and subconscious, simple and complex, spiritual and intellectual. Over the course of a fascinating career that began at a very young age, the virtuosic Charnett Moffett has reached profound musical depths and expanded the possibilities of jazz composition and performance through his creative imagination using his instruments as his voice. His approach to music making and recording can be challenging and unorthodox. Yet the rewards for taking on those challenges are often awe-inspiring, revelatory – and can elevate mere songs to Treasure, the title of Charnett’s second project for Motéma Music and his eleventh as a leader. Geri Allen & Timeline - Live

Geri Allen & Timeline -|- Live – [Motéma Music, 2010]

On June 8, composer, performer, and scholar, Geri Allen will follow up her ambitious and critically lauded solo piano project, Flying Toward The Sound (March 30) with her first “live” recording: Geri Allen & Timeline – Live. These tandem releases mark her debut on the Motéma Music label. Fred Kaplan of Stereophile said of Flying Toward the Sound, “…she takes the art well beyond what many might expect of her. The sound quality is also superb: liquid and percussive. Get this, listen closely, and hang on tight.”

Davis, Overall & Chestnut

Whereas ‘Flying Toward the Sound‘ documented Allen’s intimate, completely personal pianistic vision, Geri Allen & Timeline – Live reveals a populist and gregarious side of Allen’s musicality. Allen’s Timeline quartet, which has been touring successfully in the US and Europe for the past two years, represents another facet of the inspirational Geri Allen, in which she embraces the rhythmic grounding and, in fact, the very origins of syncopation through jazz in motion, with an extraordinary ensemble featuring veteran bassist Kenny Davis, and brilliant new talents Kassa Overall on multi-percussion set and tap sensation Maurice Chestnut. Orlando Le Fleming - From Brooklyn with Love

Orlando Le Fleming -|- From Brooklyn (Live at Freddy’s) – [19/8 Records, 2010]

Orlando Le Fleming was born in Birmingham, England on July 7, 1976. Both of his parents are professional musicians; his mother a cellist and his father a composer. His first ambition was to become a professional cricketer, an aim that was realized when he played for five years in the minor counties. After receiving a place at London’s Royal Academy of Music, Orlando decided to give up cricket and pursue his love of music. While base in London, he quickly established himself as one of the UK’s most prominent bass players touring and recording with Jason Rebello, Julian Joseph, Iain Ballamy, Tommy Smith, Jean Toussaint and Guy Barker.

With the advantage of being based in Europe, Orlando was also in demand to perform and tour with visiting U.S. musicians such as Bill Charlap, Art Farmer, George Coleman, Dave Liebman, Joey Calderazzo and most notably, Branford Marsalis. Orlando moved to new York in 2003 and became a member of Jane Monheit’s band, a stint that lasted for three years. He also toured and recorded with Billy Cobham’s project “The Art of Five”. More recently Orlando has recorded with Jimmy Cobb, Seamus Blake, Ari Hoenig, Lage Lund and has been performing with the Joey Calderazzo Trio,Jeff “Tain” Watts and the David Sanchez quartet.

Tusica in Jazz

Expands Its Summer Programming

Civita di Bagnoregio is a town in the Province of Viterbo in Central Italy

From July 8 through August 14, 2010, in the Viterbo region of Italy (about 43 miles from Rome), the countryside town of Soriano nel Cimino and city of Nepi will host the 9th edition of the Tuscia in Jazz Festival.

For the past eight years, Tuscia in Jazz has been considered one of the most important international jazz festivals, as well as an important vehicle to promote the beautiful region with its Etruscan roots, Roman history, medieval hill towns and unspoiled lakes and forests. Tuscia in Jazz has extended its branches significantly: with a record label to release recordings of its unique live performances, by adding workshops with world-renown pianist Kenny Barron and rising-star drummer Francisco Mela, and incorporating the annual Jimmy Woode Award for bass playing.
