Revive Music Group announces its highly anticipated debut of the Revive Da Live Big Band concert series Saturday June 24, 2010 doors open 7:00 PM at New York hot spot, Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleeker Street, New York, NY). The concert is an innovative hybrid of big band music that will feature jazz trumpeter Nicholas Payton collaborating with influential hip hop artist Talib Kweli backed by an all-star 18-piece big band. We will be paying homage to the influence of big band traditions in jazz music through the performance of modern day genres and innovative collaborations. The Nicholas Payton SeXXXtet featuring original music composed and arranged by Payton will perform a special opening set. Payton’s own group features rising stars in their own right Lawrence Fields (piano), Vicente Archer (bass), Marcus Gilmore (drums) and Daniel Sadownick (percussion). Following the opening set by Payton’s own group they will be joining as part of the Revive Da Live Big Band comprised of a who’s who of renowned international jazz artists. Original songs will be presented from both the catalog of Nicholas Payton along with interpretations of jazz standards and hip hop classics from Talib Kweli.
We are proud to feature a special collaboration from jazz tap dance group Tap Messengers. This concept was created in an effort to bridge the cultural and musical influences of big band era jazz along with the parallels and historical presence of modern day music.

Since 2006, Revive Music Group has been presenting as series of conceptual concert events called REVIVE DA LIVE that specialize in illuminating the historical influence and relevancy of jazz with today’s popular music. In the past year Revive Music Group has produced events like, Hip Hop 1942 w/Phonte of Little Brother, Hip Hop 1953 w/Pete Rock and Roy Hargrove & Guru. Revive Music Group is planning many events in the near future inspiring the education of music, the influence of jazz and the future of hip-hop.
