Ryan Cohan - Another Look (Motéma, 2010)

On September 14, 2010, Motéma, one of the industry’s leading labels, will proudly release Another Look, pianist/composer Ryan Cohan’s follow up recording to his highly praised debut recording for the label, 2007’s One Sky, which landed on the “Best Recordings of the Year” lists in multiple major media outlets.  While One Sky displayed the Guggenheim Fellow‘s prodigious talents as a composer, Another Look takes a major leap towards showcasing the strength and depth of Cohan’s gifts as a pianist and as an improviser.  “While my previous recordings centered more heavily on my writing, this project offers a perspective shift towards spontaneous playing.  We went into the studio immediately following several weeks of touring in Europe to capture a live feel and the raw essence of my group.  It was the perfect opportunity to record”, said Cohan. Marc Antoine - My Classical Way

Marc Antoine -][- My Classical Way – [Frazzy Frog Music, 2010]

Guitarist, composer and producer, Marc Antoine, was born in Paris (France) on the 28th of May 1963. His parents bought him his first guitar when he was 11 years old which quickly became his third arm. Marc has had a guitar in his hands ever since.

At age 13, his father saw such rapid progress that he sent him to the conservatory where he would study classical music. By then his mentors were Andres Segovia and John Williams.

At 17 he’d already won many prizes and started showing an interest in a variety of music genres including jazz, rock, Afro, pop, and more. At the same time he was playing in local bands in Britany (France).

Tragedy struck in the summer of 1981 when his debut career got cut short by a devastating accident to his left hand. The surgeon told him that his chances of playing guitar again were very slim and next to nothing. However, through the adversity, his love and passion for music helped him overcome this tragedy and in 1984 he was back on the scene in Paris, performing in clubs and recording for artists like Philippe Petit, Charlelie Couture, Jill Kaplan, France Gall, and Ray Lema. Marcus Nance - The Voice Next Door

MARCUS NANCE -//- The Voice Next Door – [Marcus Nance, 2010]

The sultry bass-baritone will surround you with his rich, soulful and powerful voice singing smooth jazz standards such as Summertime, Strange Fruit and Black and Blue as well as a Chopin inspired Nature Boy and an uplifting Ol’ Man River.

My career has been equal parts jazz, cabaret, theatre and opera and I find that I am most satisfied as an artist when I keep my toes in each of these fields. Every style I sing colours the other. My jazz has the richness of opera and my opera has the life, rhythm, and hardship of jazz.

In this recording I wanted to share my love for rich and smooth ballads (My One and Only Love, They Say It’s Wonderful) as well as my experience growing up as a black child in the 1970″s (Black and Blue, Strange Fruit). I also wanted to share the joys of growing up in a religious family and how that has influenced my life (Come Sunday, God Will Provide a Lamb). And last but not least I have added a few theatre songs including Ol’ Man River which has become the most requested song of my career.

I think the most exciting performances are live, so I went at this recording as if I was performing in front of an audience; we did not record line by line and then stick it together. We did each song from beginning to end with everyone in the same room. I wanted a natural and powerful performance… the way music should always be delivered.

I hope you enjoy my debut CD. May it bring you the joy that music has brought me all of my life.
