Minsarah - Blurring The Lines

Minsarah -][- Blurring The Lines – [ENJA RECORDS, 2010]

The members of Trio Minsarah met in September 2000 while all three attended Berklee in Boston, and soon developed an intense musical connection which produced an exceptionally unique trio sound. Concerts in Germany followed, at prestigious venues, and the following year saw a tour in Florida, another three-week tour throughout Germany and an East Coast tour of the USA including Washington D.C. and Boston. The word Minsarah is Hebrew and means “prism”. Like a prism showing the colors in light, the trio goes for new sound colors and new ideas in band playing. A team of densely interacting improvisers, the three play with power and dramatic intensity, fresh lyricism, and a sense of melody thats all their own. German native Florian Weber has toured as a soloist with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, studied with Paul Bley, John Taylor, Richie Beirach, and performed with Albert Mangelsdorff and Benny Bailey.

In 2001 he was awarded the Steinway Prize at the Montreux Jazz Festival Solo Piano Competition. American bassist Jeff Denson, of Arlington, Virginia, grew up in the Washington, D.C. Hes worked with Lee Konitz, Joe Lovano, Charlie Byrd, Kenny Werner and others, and received the Berklee Outstanding Performer Award in 2002. Israeli drummer Ziv Ravitz started his professional career as a drummer at age 13. He’s worked with Joe Lovano, Mick Goodrick, George Garzone, Lee Konitz and received the Zildjian Scholarship Award in 2003.

Albert Rivera, Jazz, Saxophonist

Back in August of this year, saxophonist Albert Rivera stepped out with his impromptu project “Inner Peace,” to shake and rattle things up a bit on the jazz scene. Recently I was drawn to reacquaint myself with the power, energy and finesse of his magnetic horn play as it blurs seamlessly through the conduit of the eclectic voice of this amazing saxophonist on his debut “Re-Introduction” released in 2008. For those of you who haven’t, you might want to consider his mind-blowing bop-infused jazz excursion on Turnaround Records. —Rob Young | The Urban Flux

Albert Rivera - Re-Introduction

Albert Rivera -][- Re-Introduce – [Turnaround Records, 2008]

Born in Bronx, NY, Albert Rivera began his career as a classical musician at age ten with the Bronx Borough-wide Concert Band. At 12, he and his band mates were invited to appear at Carnegie Hall. He made three appearances there, the last of which was with the New York Pops. Bitten by the bug of ensemble music, he auditioned for the selective LaGuardia High School for Music and Arts program and was accepted.

At LaGuardia, he discovered jazz. “When I first heard Charlie Parker and Coltrane, I was speechless,” he said. He wanted to join the school jazz band but there was no room for a bass clarinet, so he switched to sax. –Biography
