SET FOR MARCH 8 RELEASE ON RESONANCE RECORDS

Freddie Hubbard - PINNACLE

Trumpet great Freddie Hubbard at the top of his game, with West Coast all-stars digging into his sturdiest compositions – plus John Coltrane’s technically challenging piece “Giant Steps” – during a couple of nights in San Francisco, eternally exciting though recorded 30 years ago. That’s Pinnacle, Live and Unreleased: From Keystone Korner, a bounteous gift to any fan or fan-in-the-making of fiery and funky, sophisticated and melodically inspired music.

Hubbard was, next to Miles Davis, the most dramatic and far-reaching brass player of the past 60 years. He died at age 70 in December 2008, leaving a legacy of some 100 recordings under his own name and with everyone from Wes Montgomery and Art Blakey to Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Oscar Peterson, Quincy Jones, Dexter Gordon, George Benson, Sarah Vaughan, Max Roach, Count Basie, Ornette Coleman and many others. Throughout the course of his luminous international career, Hubbard established a standard of pure sound that brass players aspire to today. Continue reading →

After listening to this recording, I find that this project led by visionary Phil Martin of The Jazzinvaders is on a mission to bend, twist, blend and configure a flexible palette of music similar to two notable groups of the same genre Incognito and Brand New Heavies. “Third,” the groups latest offering is uniquely shaped with attractive beats enveloped in the body of the instrumentals pieces while accented by male and female lead vocals equally executed which in turn gives this project some rock solid shelve life. That said, I really dig the European vibe of mixing vocals and instrumentals tracks virtually as one. Therefore, I’m looking forward to hearing more music by The Jazzinvaders in the future. —Rob Young | The Urban Flux

The Jazzinvaders - THIRD

The Jazzinvaders -][- THIRD – [Unique Records/Social Beats, 2010]

Club credibility comes from years of inspiration and hard work and Phil Martin, the creative captain of the Jazzinvaders (and Socialbeats Records), knows exactly how to get there. From his musical vision, the Jazzinvaders have already reached and touched so many musical lovers globally, from those who dare to go beyond everyday club scenes, to those who look beyond the spectrum of jazz aficionados. Today, the Jazzinvaders are spreading their message even stronger.

From his studio, Phil Martin (also the band’s drummer) created the basic tracks, while adding all kinds of input from the band, from themes and arrangements, to solos, lyrics and structures. With a debut album that instantly turned into a club hit, the expectations were high, but raising the bar is in the nature of the beast, and the collective chemistry worked out really well. It leaves no doubt, that the Jazzinvaders’ spirit has grown tremendously since they’ve been touring for the last years through Europe and Japan. The first two albums “Up & Out” and “Blow!” already showed that Phil Martin can bring out the best out of his team, the new album, simply called “3”, is clearly a real group effort that will be released in November 2010. —Facebook.com
