Congratulations to pianist and composer Billy Childs for winning his second Grammy Award, and kudos my brother for another stunning album!

Billy Childs Ensemble - Autumn - In Moving Pictures

“A huge victory for fan-funded music!”

On February 13th at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards Billy Childs won the Grammy for “Best Instrumental Composition” for The Path Among the Trees. The composition was the first track on his latest ArtistShare Fan-Funded recording Autumn – In Moving Pictures.

A HUGE thanks goes out to all of the ArtistShare participants that made this project happen. We did it!

Greeting’s music lovers, friends and foes alike! Today, I’m elated to share with you a truly magical moment in music featuring Grammy Winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum and songstress Lalah Hathaway from his extraordinary recording Gospel According to Jazz Chapter 3. Congrats brother Kirk for doing what you do!

The Gospel According To Jazz, Chapter III was created through the extraordinary skills of a special lineup of musical artists. In addition to Whalum, the celebration record features jazz keyboardist George Duke, vocalist Lalah Hathaway, guitarist Doc Powell, vocalist Kevin Whalum, keyboardist/vocalist John Stoddart, percussionist Lenny Castro, and others. Further, Whalum celebrates family as well as faith by engaging some other highly talented relatives.

In addition to his brother Kevin, the set features his uncle, singer and saxophonist Hugh “Peanuts” Whalum; his nephew, saxophonist Kenneth Whalum III; his son, bassist Kyle Whalum; his nephew, vocalist Kortland Whalum; and his cousin, hip-hop artist Caleb Tha Bridge. –Kirk Whalum.com
