JAMES FARM

James Farm is a collaborative band featuring saxophonist Joshua Redman, pianist Aaron Parks, bassist Matt Penman, and drummer Eric Harland. The band uses traditional acoustic jazz quartet instrumentation for its song-based approach to jazz and incorporates the members’ myriad of influences: rock, soul, folk, classical, and electronica, among many others. Nonesuch releases the band’s self-titled debut album on April 26, 2011.

Penman says of the group, “James Farm is where we pool our collective knowledge, let run the best of our ideas arising from our varied musical influences, while acknowledging substantial common ground—a love of jazz, a fascination with song and structure, an obsession with groove, and a receptivity to contemporary influences. A band where we can be creative composers and improvisers, in step with the rhythm of the times, constantly evolving.” Continue reading →

Phil Davis & Tiffany Davis, CLASSIC JAZZ LULLABIES, Vol1

Phil Davis and Tiffany Davis -][- Classic Jazz Lullabies, Vol. 1 -(MP3)- [PhD Productions, LLC, 2009]

Frustrated by the lack of baby music that lulls a little one to sleep and, at the same time, won’t drive parents nuts, Phil and Tiffany Davis have developed a ‘sleep-time solution’ that the whole family can enjoy.

Classic Jazz Lullabies: Volume 1 debuts this week and was developed by Grammy award-winning Producer, Phil Davis, and his multi-talented wife, Tiffany Davis. The CD features traditional songs like “Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep,” “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” and “Somewhere Over The Rainbow,” but while the words are familiar the upbeat tunes and rhythmic beats will forever change the melodies that have lived in our heads for generations. The birth of the project coincided with the birth of Phil and Tiffany’s third child when Tiffany went shopping for new baby music. “I found myself asking, ‘Why isn’t there any music that is jazz-based? Where is the variety?’” Tiffany recalls on one shopping trip at a popular baby store. “Then God said, ‘You do it. Make the music you are looking for.’”

Classic Jazz Lullabies: Volume 1 is a musical journey like none you have ever experienced. The concept behind Classic Jazz Lullabies is to introduce to the world a traditional lullaby with a jazz interpretation. The unique nature of jazz lends itself to a myriad of voices, colors and sounds. Applying the jazz tradition to lullabies allows the listener to blend the aforementioned elements to “paint their own pictures” while nurturing a spirit of comfort and relaxation. “We see this as something parents can incorporate into their bedtime routine or use it themselves as a relaxation tool while reminiscing about their childhood,” say Phil Davis. —Album Notes

Lloyd Gregory - LLOYD GREGORY

Lloyd Gregory -][- LLOYD GREGORY – [Roxboro Entertainment, 2010]

A master of both acoustic and electric guitar as well as a musical director who has played and recorded with artists as diverse as Martha Reeves and Gerald Albright, San Francisco-based Lloyd Gregory’s smooth, soulful, melodic, and flowing sound evokes unique hints of his extensive R&B roots. His fifth album’s tracks include standouts “Brazilian Sea”; and “Moment in Time”. Music magazine Minor 7th: Acoustic Music Review says, “Lloyd expertly fuses soul, pop and jazz, forging a hybrid that is both enjoyable and intellectually stimulating.” Gregory himself says of the new record, “As we grow in time, age, experience, knowledge and wisdom, there comes a time when it’s time to put it all to music and share it with the world. For this album, it was time to make music for my friends.”

“Lloyd is what I like to call a household musician,” Roxboro founder Stanley Clarke says. “He is just a sweet warm guy, which comes out in his music. His music reminds me of a modern-day Wes Montgomery.” –Roxboro Entertainment | BIOGRAPHY
