Jazz, Stamps

This is the Jazz (Forever®) commemorative stamp, available as a Strip of 4 stamps, a Block of 10 stamps, or a Pane of 20 stamps.

Jazz Forever (Stamps)

On March 26, 2011 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Postal Service™ will issue a Jazz commemorative stamp (Forever® priced at 44-cents), in one design in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) pane of 20 stamps. The stamp was designed by Howard E. Paine, Delaplane, Virginia.

The U.S. Postal Service® is proud to pay tribute to jazz, America’s musical gift to the world, and to the musicians who play it on festival stages as well as in studios, clubs and concert halls. Art Director, Howard Paine, designed the stamp to showcase the work of Paul Rogers, an artist living in Pasadena, California. In creating the art for the stamp, originally using ink on paper and then finishing his work digitally, Rogers explored the way images could become a visual equivalent of jazz music. He was inspired by the cover art from vintage jazz record albums — work that captured the music’s improvisational quality while built on a clear understanding of its underlying structure.

Eighth Release from Critically Acclaimed Contemporary Jazz Quartet Available March 20th on Crocevia di Suoni Records

Felice Clemente Quartet - Nuvole di Carta

Los Angeles, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) March 21, 2011: “Nuvole di Carta” marks the eighth release from Italy’s critically acclaimed Felice Clemente Quartet. Available March 20th on Crocevia di Suoni Records. Nuvole di Carta (which translates to “Paper Clouds”) is impeccable, contemporary Jazz recording featuring superb musicianship and intelligent improvisation reminiscent of such masterful players as Joe Lovano, John Coltrane and Branford Marsalis.

Recorded and mixed at ArteSuono Recording Studios – Cavalicco (UD) Italy, Nuvole di Carta features such tracks as “The Courage to Try,” “Paradossi” and “Inside Changes.” The entire album highlights the Felice Clemente Quartet’s exploration of beautiful melodies, great interplay and approachable themes — while masterfully utilizing odd time signatures to create approachable musical motifs.
“Nuvole di Carta is my heartfelt tribute to young friend — a beloved friend who left us at a very young age,” says Clemente. The title, ‘Nuvole di Carta’ alludes to the fusion between dreams (the clouds) and their realization (paper). Through my musical notes transcribed on paper, I wanted to give a shape to my friend’s dreams.” Continue reading →

Alon Nechushtan - WORDS BEYOND

In this culturally diverse idiom called jazz, I’m blessed with the opportunity to become acquainted with new music by a fascinating young pianist/composer named Alon Nechushtan. Prior to his sophomore effort “Words Beyond” this New England Conservatory grad like many of his peers landed feet first in the “Big Apple” with hopes of developing and strengthening his skill and voice by playing with a variety of top-shelve musicians after moving to New York in 2003.

With nine originals available, it was evident Alon needed to call upon two supreme players who have the agility, sensitivity and the unique synergy needed to record and complete “Words Beyond.” Therefore, he summon drummer Dan Weiss and Francois Moutin to shape the tones, define the structure and melodies of this wonder banquet of intriguing pieces. Alon appears to approach his compositional voicing’s based upon the blueprint and elements of traditional jazz. With the opener “Muppet Shock,” this gifted player/composer eloquently sets the atmosphere and foundation for “Words Beyond.” Continue reading →
