Assaf Kehati Quartet -][- Flowers and Other Stories (MP3) [Akjazz, 2011]
ASSAF KEHATI: Jazz guitarist and composer Assaf Kehati arrived to the USA in 2007 and after a short time he has made waves in the jazz scene by working with such names as Ran Blake (piano), George Garzone (sax), Eli Degibri (sax), Ziv Ravitz (drums), Will Vinson (sax) and legendary drummer Billy Hart (Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery) and by performing in such venues as Blue Note, NYC, Regattabar, Boston, Washington DC Jazz Festival, MuzEnergo (Russia) Jazz Festival, New England Cable News and Eric Harvie Theatre, Canada.
THE MUSIC: Kehati has recorded two CDs – A View From My Window (2010) and Flowers and Other Stories (2011). His compositions are inspired by the daily and trivial, yet wonderful and significant experiences of life: from a winter, snow-laden view of Fenway Park from his apartment porch (A View From My Window), to the mundane but satisfying life of a snail (Sunshine Berale), to a girl seeking love in a land beyond the oceans (The Snow and the Sun), and to a story about the universal character, Mr. Mario that travels the world like a gypsy to places like Africa, the Middle East and the Pyramids in Egypt (Mr.Mario).

Checked the brother out on youtube…..he has chops no doubt…I hear he is influenced by Pat Methany I suppose modern jazz guitar has Pat’s fingerprints all over it…Assaf’s Music is very refreshing thought provoking..to me music should work your mind make it stretch in some way, not that it has to be intellectual or “deep” in the presentation..just sayin..I am old school heard a lots of straight ahead jazz had to stuggle when Miles went electric etc etc..yeah I was not born yesterday…What I like about Assaf is you sense the connection or the continuum of jazz..so he is not dated yet I feel the roots or the flava of the jazz tradition flowing through his music…He kind of reminds me of Kurt Rosenwinkle not on the clone tip..no no no.. they just seem to be two cats playin in the now as to how they approach jazz guitar etc..I really enjoyed listening to his music…there is so much jazz out there hence I fear too much jazz not of fine “quality”..Assaf’s music is quality listening…I really should have gone to bed but I kept listening…lol
