With her debut CD, Entry, bassist/composer Linda Oh asserted herself as a unique new voice on the modern jazz scene. On her follow-up, Initial Here, Oh draws deeply upon her rich cultural heritage and broad range of inspirations to further define her musical autobiography.

“This album tells a story about identity,” Oh says. “Cultural identity and musical identity. I wanted to go in a few different directions to explore some more extreme emotions.”

The Cookers Sign To Motéma Music

THE COOKERS

Hard-bop ensemble David Weiss and The Cookers have signed to Motéma Music! They will be releasing their third recording (and the first on Motéma) in June. The program will consist of original material from band members Billy Harper, Cecil McBee, George Cables and Billy Hart. Cecil McBee has contributed a great new composition for the project, which will also feature “Tight Squeeze” from McBee’s Unspoken.

The bassist Lars Danielsson is reknown and admired in the International Jazz world for his lyrical but groovy playing. Not least his capability to improve the appearance of the melody has brought him around the world in a number of various musical constellations.

Lars Danielsson was born in 1958 and was educated from the Music Conservatory in Gothenburg. Both on double bass, electric bass and cello – (his originally main instrument from the days at the conservatory) – he is an extraordinary soloist and accompanist, who gives the music edge and colourful temperament.
