Grammy winning saxophonist will launch his new “Romance Language” album by streaming a live concert on Valentine’s Day!

Portland, OR (6 February 2012): Instead of dealing with crowded, overpriced restaurants on Valentine’s Day, stay home, light a few candles and let Grammy winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum set the mood for romance with a live two-hour concert streaming at 11:30 PM ET/8:30 PM PT in conjunction with the release of his 29th album, “Romance Language.” In partnership with Portland Prime, Hilton Portland & Executive Tower and BMW & MINI Portland, the February 14th webcast powered by StageIt and shared around the world via Whalum’s Facebook page will include a backstage camera offering viewers a rare glimpse behind the scenes. On February 18th, there will be a rebroadcast of the Valentine’s Day concert at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT with a live question and answer session with Whalum. Continue reading →

Do you read your favorite book over and over again? Stare repeatedly at one brilliant work of art? How about giving a music recording another spin? During the first listen, you might recognize the style of music and get a general sense of the sound. During the second listen, you gain a stronger understanding of the structure of the music, when sections begin or end, and what instruments are playing.

The third time around tells a different story.

All of a sudden, melodies become recognizable, broader shapes and forms begin to appear, and shifts in the color of harmonies become clearer. It’s that melodic recognition, that clarity of the broader scope for which Third Story reaches. Continue reading →
