Lettuce -][- FLY –Mp3– [Royal Family Records, 2012] –

Celebrating their 20th anniversary as modern day rulers of old school funk, the seven-piece Brooklyn-based juggernaut Lettuce drops their third studio album FLY – a decidedly raging slab of relentless groove, hyper-charged syncopation and psychedelicized soul anthems. Having blown up stages from coast to coast last year, ranging from The Fillmore in SF to Terminal 5 in NYC, Bear Creek Music Festival to Camp Bisco and all points in-between, Lettuce entered Brooklyn recording studio The Bunker this winter with a fresh batch of road-tested material and a revitalized sound honed razor sharp by a year spent on the road. Ron Carter Sideman Recruits Bassist Christian McBride, Guitarist Anthony Wilson, Drummer Lewis Nash and Violinist Christian Howes for New Album

Donald Vega, SPIRITUAL NATURE

“… an exceptionally articulate pianist… Vega’s single most distinctive characteristic is his romantic lyricism.” – JazzTimes

Stream Exclusive Tracks from Spiritual Nature

While pianist Donald Vega is beginning to draw attention in jazz circles as Mulgrew Miller’s successor in the Ron Carter Trio, he makes a bold statement as a composer and bandleader on Spiritual Nature. Joined by the regal rhythm tandem of bassist Christian McBride and drummer Lewis Nash, Vega explores the marriage of jazz, Latin and classical music on his auspicious Resonance Records debut. “It’s a dream come true,” says the 37-year-old pianist of the opportunity to record with McBride and Nash. “Spiritually, this is my dream trio.” The core trio is augmented by guitarist Anthony Wilson, violinist and label mate Christian Howes, tenor saxophonist Bob Sheppard, trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos and trombonist Bob McChesney on Vega’s sophomore outing (following 2008’s self-produced Tomorrows, which also featured drummer Nash). Frank Herzberg Trio -][- HANDMADE –Mp3– [FHStudio, 2011] –

Handmade Coming to Brazil 14 years ago was a kind of adventure that I expected to last only a couple of years. But private plans and destiny very often do not agree with each other. Now I’m married to my beautiful wife Marta, have three great kids: Stefan, Luisa and Clara, and I have met many marvelous people here. I am lucky to play with many of the very best Brazilian musicians and I’ve been learning a great variety of new musical styles and ways to play.

Zé Eduardo Nazario and Alexandre Zamith became my partners almost 10 years ago and we continue to find opportunities to maintain our musical and personal friendship. I’m very pleased we managed to document some of the artistic material we’ve created during these years. –[Album Notes | CDBaby]-
