Miguel Zenón and Laurent Coq -][- RAYUELA –Mp3– [Sunnyside, 2012] –

The music on this recording was inspired by the book Rayuela, by the Argentine writer Julio Cortázar. This masterpiece has long provided me with an immense amount of inspiration and ideas, forging a possibility for what art could be: a medium of boundless freedom, both for the creator and for the audience. The narrative in Rayuela takes place both in Paris and Buenos Aires, and it was indeed this “”French-Latin American”” connection that ignited the idea for a collaboration between Laurent and myself. We have become close friends through the years but had never had the chance to collaborate on a musical project before (aside from the casual performance here and there). Working on Rayuela seemed like the perfect opportunity. Continue reading →

The signature hook by the legendary alto-saxophonist David Sanborn has positioned him to be a pillar in the jazz community. I understand, some may dispute this, nonetheless he’s undeniably one of the most prominent voices in today’s music. If you dig contemporary jazz, than this two disc collection of music is well-worth the cash for those of you who may not have these hand-picked songs by Sanborn for this project. –Rob Young | Urban Flux Media

Then Again: The David Sanborn Anthology is the first comprehensive two-disc collection spaning 25 years of David’s career at both Warner Bros. and Elektra Records.

David has been very involved in the release and handpicked the songs himself. Liner notes by US author/ journalist David Ritz.

Michal Urbaniak -][ FUSION III –Mp3– [Ubx Records, 2008] –

Very engaging and funky fusion disc from 1975, featuring not only Urbaniak’s soaring gypsy drenched violin but also the other-worldly vocalese of his then-wife Ursula Dudziak (quite an original vocal artist in her own right).

The songs combine a lot of playfully twisty be-bop like melody lines with rip-snorting funk, chiming electric pianos and fiery rock sensibilities, particularly the searing guitars of John Abercrombie (check out the spine-chilling solo on “Metroliner”) and Larry Coryell (who seriously rocks out on “Bloody Kishka”). plus a killer rhythm section of bassist Anthony Jackson with drummers Steve Gadd and Gerry Brown. -[Excerpt | Customer Review | Amazon]-

Van Morrison

June 26, 2012, New York – Van Morrison returns to Blue Note Records for a new studio album Born To Sing: No Plan B to be released on October 2. Morrison previously released the Grammy-nominated What’s Wrong With This Picture? on Blue Note in 2003.

Van says: “With most record companies being so corporate I am happy to be working with Don Was and the team at Blue Note. To have such a creative music person as the head of my recording label assures me that all the effort taken to write and record this new album will be rewarded with a music-based focus and marketing approach. I look forward to many recording projects with Don and Blue Note.” Continue reading →

Keith Jarrett -][- SLEEPER: TOKYO, April 16, 1979 –Mp3– [ECM, 1979] –

ECM is particularly pleased to present this two-disc set by one of the most outstanding groups of its era, the group often referred to as Belonging or Keith Jarrett s European Quartet , heard here in a previously unreleased concert recording from 1979. After more than three decades in the archive, this sleeper now awakes, sounding thoroughly alive and of the moment. Continue reading →

Sarah Elizabeth Charles, RED

Truth Revolution Records is proud to introduce our newest artist Sarah Elizabeth Charles! 2012 has proven to be a year of success for TRR in the partnerships and releases we’ve accomplished, and Sarah Charles in no exception. This month she signed as an official TRR artist and we couldn’t be happier, especially on the cusp of her upcoming release, “RED”. This album comes after her successful release with Manner Effect and she’s kept the momentum going by putting together her Quartet. The S.E. Charles Quartet, composed of Sarah (vocals), Jesse Elder (piano), Burniss Earl Travis (bass), and John Davis (drums), has been together for two years working toward the sound that they have discovered today: one rooted in a musically intuitive nature and strong personal connections. This special group formed a special bond which in turn produced this very special album. Continue reading →

Chick Corea and Gary Burton, HOT HOUSE

Chick Corea and Gary Burton -][- HOT HOUSE – [Concord Jazz, 2012] –

Pianist Chick Corea and vibraphonist Gary Burton became a collaborative team almost by accident. Their first musical encounter took place at a jazz festival in Germany in 1972, when they performed together in a spur-of-the-moment encore. The results were so satisfying not only to the audience but to the artists themselves that the two musicians reconvened in a recording studio a couple months later to record the intricate yet highly melodic Crystal Silence, their first of several collaborative studio projects.
