Allison Au is a Toronto-based saxophonist, flautist, composer and arranger. She currently leads the Allison Au Quartet, performing her original music at local venues in the city, such as the Rex Hotel Jazz and Blues Bar, The Emmet Ray, The Gate 403 and the TRANZAC.

In 2011, the Allison Au Quartet was awarded the TD Bank Fellowship in Jazz scholarship to attend the Winter Residency at the Banff Centre. The group returned again for the Winter Residency in February 2012.

Allison was also selected as one of eight international participants for the Metropole Orkest’s Arrangers Workshop (2011) held in the Netherlands. During the workshop she had the opportunity to study arranging with Vince Mendoza and work with vocalist Roberta Gambarini and the Metropole Orchestra. Since, her work has been featured with the Metropole Orkest, The WDR Cologne Big Band Orchestra (Germany), Hilario Duran’s Latin Big Band (Canada), The Filarmonica 900 del Teatro Regio and Torino Jazz Orchestra (Italy).

She has attended the 2010 summer workshop at the School for Improvised Music in Brooklyn, NY under the direction of Ralph Alessi and the 2011 Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music, under the direction of Dave Douglas.

Allison holds a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies from Humber College where she studied with Pat LaBarbera, Kelly Jefferson, Andy Ballantyne, Hilario Duran, John McLeod and Luis Mario Ochoa. -[Biography]-
