Luis Verde, WORLD OF DISTRACTIONS

Luis Verde -][- WORLD OF DISTRACTIONS –Mp3– [Youkali Music, 2012]

With a brief, but intense career behind him, saxophonist Luis Verde Extremadura, a key part of some of the most exciting musical projects of the moment (Citric Trio, The Wachisneis, Ander García Quintet, Orchestra Afrodisian …) and one of the musicians promising of the new – and hyper – National Jazz generation, now confirms best wishes with “World Of Distractions“, his personal debut. A warm and close work, deeply marked by the Mediterranean light, the Afro-Cuban rhythmic pulse and the patent devotion legends as Thelonious Monk, or closer in time as Avishai Cohen, Miguel Zenon, Guillermo Klein … Magnificently assisted by a select group of young Spanish and Cuban jazz (Ariel Bringuez on tenor, Roberto Pacheco on trombone, Luis Guerra at the piano, Ander Garcia on bass and drummer Michael Olivera) Luis Verde is postulated with this debut definitely one of the more sensible voices, personal and innovative Spanish Jazz today. The future is here … -[Excerpt | Biography Translated to English]-

Grupo los Santos -][- CLAVE HEART – [OA2 Records, 2012] –

Grupo los Santos has been together for 15 years developing a strong following and individual sound, with a patented blend of Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Flamenco and NYC Jazz influences; creating unique, original rumba, samba, and funky acoustic music. Drawing from the traditional/folkloric music of the Americas, played with an open and spontaneous jazz sensibility, the band cuts a very atypical profile in New York’s Jazz and Latin Jazz scene. The band’s love and individual deep study of these musical traditions has born great fruits, both compositionally and in performance and execution. The sound is coherent, focused and intelligent-the music is both classic and forward-looking at the same time-and the expression is original, soulful, high-energy and transcendent of idiom. Roberto Fonseca -][- YO – [Jazz Village, 2012] –

Roberto Fonseca accompanies his music with his whole body, even standing up in order to hammer his piano as if it were a percussion instrument. It may happen that he grabs a snare drum and thus transforms his group into a « comparsa » – a percussion ensemble, which parades down the streets during the carnival, the Cuban equivalent of the Brasilian « batucada » – compelling the following public in euphoric dance… Continue reading →

Daniel Stawinski & Clave Azul -][- Looking Inward –Mp3– [Octason Records, 2012] –

CLAVE AZUL is a crucial project for Daniel Stawinski. Not only is he the pianist and leader of the group, but also his compositions make up for the biggest part of its repertoire. The sound of CLAVE AZUL merges the creativity and spontaneity of modern jazz with the energy and rythmic complexity of afro-cuban music.

The multifaceted experiences of the band members in various musical contexts (cuban folkloric music, salsa, avantgarde jazz…) allow for this unique stylistic blend: an original, European interpretation of contemporary Latin Jazz which was awarded the Berlin Jazz&Blues Award 2005. In November 2010 the band had the unique possibility to accompany cuban percussion legend Changuito during his concert in the Werkstatt der Kulturen Berlin. Continue reading →
