Although at times it’s hard to believe, the entire recording is one man on one track. Manuel Valera

Manuel Valera, Cuban pianist, bandleader, composer and arranger, has been nominated for the Grammy Awards for his album New Cuban Express in the Best Latin Jazz category.

Manuel is also the piano faculty of Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music, Chennai. It’s a proud moment for the artiste and the academy. Prasanna, president of the academy, says, “Manuel is one of the most amazing Cuban virtuosos today. I saw him perform at the Newport Jazz Festival in September 2012. We wish him well for the Grammy Award night. He will be traveling to Los Angeles for the ceremony and be back in the academy hopefully with the award.”

Manuel is in the forefront of contemporary modern jazz and represents the next generation of great performers and composers.

Following the initiative of the “Brooklyn Jazz Underground” the group founded it’s own record label (which has given birth to nine other cds), performed extensively including a 2010 tour of Brazil and created a buzz in the specialized French media.

Ikiz aka Robert Mehmet Sinan Ikiz is an extremely versatile drummer, percussionist and composer. His repertoire ranges from jazz to funk to pop. As early as elementary school students played Ikiz, who was born in Istanbul and grew up in Stockholm, in the group Straight Ahead. After studying in Los Angeles, among others Joe Porcaro, he toured with various groups around the world. Twice he was honored by the Royal Swedish Music Academy for best drummer. In 2004 he received the Jazz Award from the Academy!
