A landmark recording, Thoughts on God, is the most recent release from prolific saxophonist and composer Eric Person. His ninth disc as a leader, the fifth on his own Distinction Records label and first funded through the Kickstarter program, an on-line funding platform for creative projects. Having fronted several different units including Meta-Four and Metamorphosis, as well as the cooperative TrioKinesis the veteran horn man is heard here leading his own jazz orchestra for the very first time. Person is an alumnus of the forward looking big bands of McCoy Tyner, David Murray and John Hicks, and is best known for his wide-ranging sideman work with Dave Holland, Chico Hamilton, and World Saxophone Quartet. On Thoughts on God, Person exhibits the fruits of lessons learned during his quarter of a century of diversified experience. The pieces composed for this twelve part suite are inspired by his powerful abiding faith in the positive force of the Creator. Continue reading

Cameron Ross -][- NEW PERSPECTIVE –Mp3– [Cameron Ross Music, 2012] –
Cameron, a native of Osceola, AR, comes from a heritage deeply rooted in God and music. As a child, he always knew that he had a place in music, but didn’t know exactly where. That all changed when he entered the 6th grade. Determined to play the drums, he signed up for middle school band. However, his parents told him that he had to play saxophone.
“I didn’t want to play it because it had too many buttons.” After being tired of always getting last chair in band class, he decided to take his sax home and actually practice it. This resulted in him getting first chair and he has been soaring since. -[Excerpt | Biography]-

Philip Baker -][- HIGHER and HIGHER –Mp3– [Lmg Records, 2012] –
This project is my first since my mother passed in 2007. The melodies here tell a story of healing and realizations I have come to embrace along this to culmination. There is so much legacy here, reflecting the deposit she made into my siblings (8 of us) and I through the years. This project includes music that my son Samuel wrote when he was 13 years of age, as well as songs he helped produce/critique. It also includes the executive direction and consultation of one of my mentors John Stevenson. Also, it includes the creative foresight of another artist Bill Parrish, a great musician and songwriter.
The melodies here in this project as always are dedicated back to my Heavenly Father, but also to my mother as well. R.I.P. DBC! We desire that you enjoy this music while you drive, relax, and live your life to the fullest with much success! Life Music! Live a Life of Success! -[Album Notes | CDBaby]-

With his forth album “PREVAIL,” Quamon keeps the flame burning with continued creativity, depth and relentless soul. —Rob Young | Urban Flux Media
