Van Morrison

June 26, 2012, New York – Van Morrison returns to Blue Note Records for a new studio album Born To Sing: No Plan B to be released on October 2. Morrison previously released the Grammy-nominated What’s Wrong With This Picture? on Blue Note in 2003.

Van says: “With most record companies being so corporate I am happy to be working with Don Was and the team at Blue Note. To have such a creative music person as the head of my recording label assures me that all the effort taken to write and record this new album will be rewarded with a music-based focus and marketing approach. I look forward to many recording projects with Don and Blue Note.” Continue reading →

Ruslan, RUSLAN

Ruslan -][- RUSLAN –Mp3– [Roxboro Entertainment Group, 2011] –

The young pianist Ruslan has already traveled the world, playing with some of the biggest names in jazz and pop music. Born in Uman, in what is now Ukraine, Ruslan’s musical heritage comes from a family rich with generations of musicians. He was exposed early in his youth to American Jazz and improvisation, and began to see music as a mission in itself, a source of passion. Ruslan’s family moved to Israel when he was ten, where he continued his music studies. Continue reading →

Erin Boheme, WHAT A LIFE

Erin Boheme -][- WHAT A LIFE – [Heads Up, 2012] –

When you’re young, five or six years can make all the difference in the world. Sometimes the road is rocky, sometimes it’s full of good fortune. Most times it’s a little of both. But no matter what the terrain, the traveler who keeps her eyes and ears – and her heart – open to the world will inevitably learn something along the way.

Every girl dreams. But, in the case of relationships – dreams don’t always work out in the way one might have imagined. More often than not, they don’t. Erin Boheme is every girl. For the first five years of her “dating” life, the right things just didn’t seem to materialize – but it wasn’t for a lack of trying. Often times getting to the dance might be easy, but it never guarantees you a successful dance. Continue reading →

Melody Gardot, THE ABSENCE

Melody Gardot -][- THE ABSENCE –Mp3– [Verve Music, 2012] –

The Absence is the third record from Grammy-nominated Melody Gardot. Produced by Heitor Pereira, renowned for his work as a film composer (Despicable Me, It’s Complicated, From Prada to Nada) and world-class session guitarist (Sting, Seal, Caetano Veloso), the Brazilian-born, US-based artist shared Melody’s enthusiasm for driving off the beaten path of Western pop, jazz, blues and soul. And he was as adventurous as Melody when it came to inventive sonic ideas.

From the deserts of Morocco to the streets of Lisboa, from the tango bars of Buenos Aires to the beaches of Brazil, The Absence captures the essence of each of these exotic locales, while at the same time remaining quintessentially Melody Gardot. -[Album Description]-

“…a singer with an innate ability for passionate songwriting that one cannot learn.” – Billboard Magazine

Abiah, LIFE AS A BALLAD

Ever since the untimely departure of Luther Vandross, the American pop scene has been absent of a Black American male balladeer possessed of chops beyond belief, staunch lyricism and emotional maturity. Abiah (pronounced Ah-bee-yah) more than adequately answers the call of that absence with an album and a presence that is sensuous, soulful, honest, grown-up and quite passionate about restoring vocal excellence to the contemporary airwaves.

Who is Abiah? These are the bare facts: he is a seasoned balladeer possessed of a five-and a half octave range; an established vocal coach and former Universal Republic recording artist; and he is of Ghanaian, Cuban, Native American descent, though raised in Rochester, NY. Continue reading →

Malynda Hale, THE TRAIN RIDE HOME

Malynda Hale -][- THE TRAIN RIDE HOME – [Goldway Records, 2012 | Review] –

The soulful yet ambitious vocalist-songwriter Malynda Hale returns with her third and most promising album to date is simply titled “THE TRAIN RIDE HOME.” Unexpectedly this listener friendly gem took me into another zone musically, it’s jam packed with heartfelt, expressive and relationship driven songs spun with her distinct blend of infectious R&B and intense pop delivered by her undeniable approach is absolutely refreshing.
