Cameron Ross -][- NEW PERSPECTIVE –Mp3– [Cameron Ross Music, 2012] –

Cameron, a native of Osceola, AR, comes from a heritage deeply rooted in God and music. As a child, he always knew that he had a place in music, but didn’t know exactly where. That all changed when he entered the 6th grade. Determined to play the drums, he signed up for middle school band. However, his parents told him that he had to play saxophone.

“I didn’t want to play it because it had too many buttons.” After being tired of always getting last chair in band class, he decided to take his sax home and actually practice it. This resulted in him getting first chair and he has been soaring since. -[Excerpt | Biography]-

“Some of the earliest memories that I can remember are the ones that involve music.” —Cameron Ross

3 BRAVE SOULS -][- Self-Titled –Mp3– [BFM Jazz, 2012 | Review] –

Perhaps equally as important to their friendship, 3 Brave Souls collectively has an unparalleled common denominator. In fact, at various intervals early on they played integral roles and develop their character as musicians by performing with the legendary Miles Davis. Therefore, they unexpectedly became beneficiaries of their tenure with Miles. As a result, these astute alumni essentially qualify to make reoccurring deposits to others and frequent withdrawals from this expansive template of innovative, progressive and creative music rooted in the spirit of love, imagination and passion to play music. Malynda Hale -][- THE TRAIN RIDE HOME – [Goldway Records, 2012 | Review] –

The soulful yet ambitious vocalist-songwriter Malynda Hale returns with her third and most promising album to date is simply titled “THE TRAIN RIDE HOME.” Unexpectedly this listener friendly gem took me into another zone musically, it’s jam packed with heartfelt, expressive and relationship driven songs spun with her distinct blend of infectious R&B and intense pop delivered by her undeniable approach is absolutely refreshing. Brian Culbertson -][- DREAMS – [Verve Records, 2012] –

In the gentle lull of sleep, we re often enraptured in a vivid sequence of thoughts, images, and sensations. A lifelike realm where radiant colors, sounds, and illusions intersect, creating the most vibrant experience. This spring, prolific R&B/Jazz musician Brian Culbertson invites you to close your eyes, open your ears, and fall deep into a lush world of musical fantasy with his breathtaking thirteenth album Dreams. With the help of lauded guest vocalists Noel Gourdin, Vivian Green, and Stokley Williams of Mint Condition, Dreams masterfully melds jazz sensibility with an R&B flair in a wondrous mélange of enchanting grooves.

Last summer, I just started having these really vivid dreams, Culbertson says. I started waking up inspired to get into the studio and write songs. Songs that made me feel like those dreams. It s really strange for me, because I ve never written songs about being inspired by dreams. That s why this record is quite different. Continue reading →

Lakecia Benjamin -][- RETOX –Mp3– [Motéma Music, 2012 | Review] –

Upon receiving the debut album “RETOX” by the gifted, intriguing, talented and emerging young voice on alto and soprano saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin I was temporarily perplex by her creative yet abstract blend of shapes, tones and flavors not realizing the true depth, quality and tangible sounds this record encompasses.

After a couple of days I decided to revisit “RETOX.” With my second listen, somewhere around the third song I was drawn deeper into the talented Lakecia Benjamin’s affluent, lyrical and composed approach to her attractive arrangements and vigilant song structure on Motéma Music. Lakecia’s voice spawns with impelling force not only as a player, her compositions are fueled with excitement and boldly expressed by her self-assurance artistically. Continue reading →

OLA ONABULE – The name represents true soul. OLA’S voice – unmistakably gentle and wistful, haunting and heartbreaking, very special and unique reminiscent of the great Soul and Jazz artists of the 1960s and 70s, whose music was able to change the course of history because it changed perceptions and opened minds.

OLA ONABULE is an inspired artist for the 21st Century who has written, recorded and produced 7 albums on his label Rugged Ram Records. Ola’s music has been performed on the largest festival stages worldwide including the main stage of the Montreal Jazz Festival, Vancouver International Jazz Festival and many others.
