Jurek Jagoda Trio -][- SONGS WITHOUT WORDS –Mp3– [SOU Productions, 2012]

The trio consists of the pianist Jurek Jagoda, Marek Alaszewski Jr. on double bass/bass and Pawel Gebicki on drums. In 2010 the band burst onto the polish music scene with the first album “Songs Without Words“. The project features 12 compelling songs composed by Jagoda and as title of the album suggests this music is constructed around tunes. Over one hour of mood music and colourful melodies. The album gets optimistic reviews (polish music magazines, internet blogs, radio stations) and was noticed by the world renowned jazz critic Stuart Nicholson, who chose this record to the top ten in the ranking “Albums Of The Year 2010” of the greatest British jazz magazine Jazzwise. Heralded as one of the “Best Jazz Albums of 2011” by NPR’s A Blog Supreme, the critically acclaimed Ninety Miles cast: vibraphonist Stefon Harris, saxophonist David Sánchez, trumpeter Christian Scott along with Rember Duharte and Harold López-Nussa, are captured for their first & only live performance on the release that inspired the original cross-cultural project: Ninety Miles Live at Cubadisco.

Perhaps better than any politician or diplomat, musicians — especially jazz musicians, whose craft is in many ways an improvised form of communication — understand inherently that when we look at each other as individuals and focus on the similarities, the divide between us is actually very short — less than a hundred miles.

Wolfgang Haffner -][- HEART OF THE MATTER –Mp3– [ACT Music, 2012] –

The title “Heart of the Matter” by Wolfgang Haffner’s new album is definitely more than a play on words a matter of the heart -. Therefore “a matter of the heart” – his job for Germany was highly decorated, winning among others the Echo Jazz 2010 drummer, since He began his career with 18 years in the band of Albert Mangelsdorff. The following work for numerous national and international stars and the participation of over 400 albums testify. But only since he as ACT artist makes his own albums, he feels the “heart of the matter” close: “I no longer feel only as a drummer, but as a universal musician. I compose, arrange, search and enter worlds of sound, which is ultimately my style. ” Continue reading →
