“And Albare? He sounds like a positive blend of the late Wes Montgomery and an early George Benson. Airy and light melodic improvisations and the themes reflect and inner harmony of boundless grace.” – Jazzpodium (Germany)

Albert Dadon (Albare), LONG WAY

Stream Tracks from Long Way

In 2011 Albert Dadon (Albare) came to the attention of Matthias Winckelmann, founder of prestigious German jazz label enja Records. Their mutual esteem led to the recording of a new project, Long Way. Produced by Winckelmann at his favorite Brooklyn studio, Studio Two, the album is a collaboration by some of the world’s finest musicians including triple GRAMMY® Award winning drummer Antonio Sanchez (Pat Metheny Group), saxophonist George Garzone (the Joe Lovano Nonet), pianist Leo Genovese (Esperanza Spalding), prolific harmonica player Hendrick Meurkens and Albare’s long time musical collaborator, bassist and composer, Evri (Evripedes Evripidou). Various Artists -[|]- Miles Espanol -(MP3)- [Entertainment One Music, 2011 | Review]

Even though we’re midway into the first month of the year, I’m honored to reflect on some recordings I have spent time on numerous occasions last year. For instance, being that I love adore new music I was blessed to immerse myself in this riveting, fresh yet approachable Latin influenced project that paid tribute to the legendary Miles Davis.

Although marginally restructured the compositions on this rendition of “Sketches of Spain” are persevered to retain its original content yet they are challenged to explore uncharted territory. Interestingly enough, you’ll find a welcome twist of multifaceted nuances underscored in the fabric of these gems will keep you returning for more. Appropriately titled “Miles Espanol,” this project is evenly shaped and divided from a Latin Jazz perspective was conceived, mended and produced by the incomparable Bob Beldon. Continue reading →

The New Gary Burton Quartet - COMMON GROUND

On Gary Burton’s debut release on Mack Avenue Records, Common Ground, the Grammy-winning pioneer of the four-mallet technique of playing the vibes is not only delivering his first studio album since 2005, but is also introducing his latest band. Known as the New Gary Burton Quartet, the group is comprised of guitarist Julian Lage, bassist Scott Colley and drummer Antonio Sanchez. Common Ground features 10 tunes, including six remarkable originals by quartet members as well as two impressive numbers by pianist Vadim Neselovskyi (a former Burton band member), a gem from the Keith Jarrett songbook and an intriguing arrangement of the standard “My Funny Valentine,” spotlighting Lage.

Well-known throughout his five-decade career for his quartets (beginning with his 1967 group featuring Larry Coryell, Roy Haynes and Steve Swallow), Burton is returning to the configuration for the first time since the mid-’90s. Pat Metheny - TOKYO DAY TRIP (Live EP)

Pat Metheny -][- TOKYO DAY TRIP – Live EP – [Nonesuch, 2008]

Tokyo Day Trip: Live EP is a collection of 5 tracks recorded live in Tokyo with Metheny’s trio, featuring bassist Christian McBride and drummer Antonio Sanchez. The tracks were recorded at the end of 2004, before the trio went into the studio to record the recently released and highly praised Day Trip.

The tracks were produced, mixed and mastered by Metheny and long time collaborator Steve Rodby. Several tracks were previously available as digital – only downloads; this will be the first time all 5 are available together on CD. The tunes range from intense and animated ( Traveling Fast ), to acoustic ballads ( The Night Becomes You ) to electric fusion ( Back Arm and Blackcharge ). More than just an extension of the studio record, this EP represents the trio at the height of their mastery, live and in the moment. The artwork for the EP, a re-creation of the original Day Trip street scene but a view of Tokyo instead of New York was created by painter Josh George, who hails from Metheny’s hometown, Lee s Summit, Missouri.

Antonio Sanchez - Live in New York

Antonio Sanchez -][- Live in New York – [CAM Jazz, 2010]

After the global success of “Migration“, Antonio Sanchez returns with this splendid live recording for CAM Jazz. This new release, where all of Sanchez’s talent is unraveled and fully appreciated, is a double-album recorded live at Jazz Standard in New York in October of 2008.

Technically the Mexican drummer impresses for his appearance, color and dynamics, but it’s even more amazing observing once again how the diversified vocabulary displayed behind the cymbals and drums is not an ending but a medium through which he discloses his own world of sound, unique and fascinating.
