His studio (of same name) has provided a venue for local musicians to record their projects.  He has been a member of Collaboration, a Washington-based jazz group of music educators since 1986.  He has performed in many venues in the United States and abroad, sharing the stage with many prominent musicians. ~ Source: CDBaby.com

Stanley Clarke | School Days [Jazz/Fusion/Revisited]

When I think about jazz-fusion, I immediately reflect on of the phenomenal bassist, composer, producer, and arranger Stanley Clarke. As a musician, this guy single handedly redefined both electric and acoustic bass. Therefore, he influenced a plethora of musicians and music lovers worldwide over the years.

Retrospectively, after being introduced in the early seventies to the extraordinary sounds of Return To Forever [Corea, Clarke, White & Connors], “Light as A Feather.” Although, I was amazed, stunned and still today I’m astonished by the venomous playing of this audacious jazz-fusion quartet especially the unique playing technique of monster bassist Stanley Clarke.

Also, guitarist Al Di Meola Brings The ‘World’ On 2009 Tour Schedule

New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) – Virtuoso guitarist Al Di Meola will be launching a national tour and releasing a new album in early 2009 with his new project, Al Di Meola and World Sinfonia. Joining a handpicked group of master musicians for both the tour and album, Di Meola makes a surprising turn into the romantic, producing a collection of moving tango-flavored melodies. Their work is on display on ‘La Melodia Live In Milano,’ available in America for the first time on January 8, 2009, just days before the start of the tour. The album features two songs by tango master Astor Piazzolla, for whom Di Meola admits he has been “carrying a torch” his entire career, as well as one each from Ennio Morricone and Andrea Parodi, and four by Di Meola himself. – RTF.com

David Dyson | Unleashed

David Dyson

David Dyson

From the New Kids on the Block to Me’Shell N’degeocello, Dyson is a bona-fide force in the bass world (in my opinion, a criminally lesser known name to many, tho.  Every bass player should be well aware of David Dyson).  I had the pleasure of meeting Dave through a mutual friend (and killer bassist Steve Jenkins) at a NAMM show a few years back and am happy to report that he’s also a VERY cool guy.  Do a search on youtube or visit his myspace page and you’ll find a plethora of wonderful videos showing us all what the pocket is really about.  I was very excited to hear a mix of his upcoming CD “Unleashed!” and I wasn’t disappointed in the least! – Damian Erskine /Bass Musician Magazine

Wayman Tisdale

Wayman Tisdale

Wayman Tisdale’s lengthy battle with cancer has taken another turn. The Oklahoma basketball legend had the lower part of his right leg amputated Monday.

Diagnosed early last year with cancer, he has been fighting it for the past 18 months. The surgery to remove the lower part of his leg is expected to eradicate the disease.

“I have complete faith that, with the Lord’s blessings, this surgery will eliminate the cancer from my body,” Tisdale said in a statement.

In February 2007, Tisdale suffered a broken right leg when he fell down a flight of stairs at his Los Angeles home. While examining that injury, doctors discovered a cancerous cyst just below his knee. – NewsOK.com

S.M.W. - Thunder

S.M.V. - "Thunder"

Out of the shrink-wrap, this outstanding collaborative effort by the three amigos, maestros of their instrument in the universe Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten collectively brings on a colossal of unadulterated “Thunder” to their first time outing together on Heads Up International. Major kudos to Heads Up Records for stretching and bending the boundaries with this project by marrying the voices of three of the most esteemed artists in the music business today regardless of genre.

I know, you think why on earth would these guys of this talent endure the pain of trying to work out their elusive schedules to record this record? Was it their ego? Perhaps? But unlikely, because they have earned their stripes and garnered a very strong fan base to fool around with immaturity.
