A trio of acclaimed jazz musicians is heading to Colwood on what will be their band’s first tour outside of Ontario and only the second time the group has played outside of Toronto.

Featuring pianist Chris Donnelly, Dan Fortin on bass and Ernesto Cervini on the drums, Myriad has stops in Calgary, Vancouver, Kamloops and Clearwater before playing Hermann’s Jazz Club in downtown Victoria and, most importantly, at a Jazz Vesper at the Church of the Advent in Colwood.

“A band like ours, we need to play and we need to play in as many environments as possible to explore our relationship with the music and explore our relationship with the other musicians,” Donnelly said. Continue reading →

“A Beautiful Bang” embodies an assorted boutique of thirteen jams for the discerning ears of contemporary, urban, soul and smooth jazz lovers to taste, stir and savor with each spin. Out of the box, the groove begins with a tune pen by the dynamic duo Holmes and Newton on the uniquely titled “Jawjacka’.” This chart poppin’ groove opens with funky bass licks supplied by the versatile Ron Holmes, accompanied by the ensemble they pound away relentlessly too reinforce the upbeat rhythms accentuate their accessible and distinct sound. A native of South Carolina, Samuel Jenkins a jazz bass guitarist graduated from Benedict College in Columbia, S.C. where he majored in Criminal Justice with a minor in Music. He contributed many years of performing with the renowned “Benedict Gospel Choir”, and attended and performed in many recitals at the USC School of Music as well as with the S.C. Philharmonic Orchestra”, while completing his education.

Pianist Frank Caruso played with the US Navy Jazz Band the FRANK CARUSO: Piano Performed with the Commodores in Washington D.C., and was a featured performer at the White House birthday party for Duke Ellington. Since then, he has appeared with many well-known musicians, such as Luciano Pavarotti, Henry Mancini, Louis Bellson, Maynard Ferguson, the Count Basie Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. His most recent albums “Heart of the City,” in collaboration with saxophonist Mark Colby, and “Songs from the Kingdom of Jazz,” with saxophonist Jim Massoth, have all received wide critical acclaim. He has recently co-written with Karl Mollison a jazz piano method book, “Piano Improvisation—A Powerful Practical System.”

Legendary bassist EDDIE GOMEZ has been on the cutting edge of music for over four decades.
