Chick Corea and Gary Burton -][- HOT HOUSE – [Concord Jazz, 2012] –

Pianist Chick Corea and vibraphonist Gary Burton became a collaborative team almost by accident. Their first musical encounter took place at a jazz festival in Germany in 1972, when they performed together in a spur-of-the-moment encore. The results were so satisfying not only to the audience but to the artists themselves that the two musicians reconvened in a recording studio a couple months later to record the intricate yet highly melodic Crystal Silence, their first of several collaborative studio projects. Corea, Gomez and Motian, Further Explorations

Corea, Gomez & Motian -][- Further Explorations -(MP3)- [Concord Jazz, 2012]

Produced by Corea, Further Explorations was recorded May 4-17, 2010, live at the Blue Note in New York City. (2011 marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Evans’ original Explorations LP with Motian and bassist Scott LaFaro on the Riverside label.) In preparation, Corea, Gomez and Motian examined the entire Bill Evans discography. Rather than approach the music as a tribute, his material provides more of a template. Each musician also contributes original material. The results are inspired, as this elevated piano trio plays with near-telepathic empathy and a remarkable blend of ingenuity and emotional depth. Various Artists -[|]- Miles Espanol -(MP3)- [Entertainment One Music, 2011 | Review]

Even though we’re midway into the first month of the year, I’m honored to reflect on some recordings I have spent time on numerous occasions last year. For instance, being that I love adore new music I was blessed to immerse myself in this riveting, fresh yet approachable Latin influenced project that paid tribute to the legendary Miles Davis.

Although marginally restructured the compositions on this rendition of “Sketches of Spain” are persevered to retain its original content yet they are challenged to explore uncharted territory. Interestingly enough, you’ll find a welcome twist of multifaceted nuances underscored in the fabric of these gems will keep you returning for more. Appropriately titled “Miles Espanol,” this project is evenly shaped and divided from a Latin Jazz perspective was conceived, mended and produced by the incomparable Bob Beldon. Continue reading →
