Luciana Souza -][- BOOK OF CHET –Mp3– [Sunnyside Records, 2012] –

Something happens to me every time I hear Chet Baker sing. There is something he gets at with his interpretations – a quiet loneliness – that I crave in music. Chet is able to transport me to a place, and to keep me there for the duration of the song.

Through his singing I have become intimate with solitude. This record is an attempt to articulate the world that Chet’s music takes me to… Luciana Souza. Continue reading →

Letizia Gambi -][- Introducing Letizia Gambi –Mp3– [Jando Music, 2012] –

Born in Naples, south Italy, Letizia grew up in an artistic family. Opera singers, musicians, actors, writers. Her mother started also as singer, her uncle is an Opera’s Tenore and her father, an artist and a Jazz lover. Also her brother Gianpaolo has become an appreciated and talented actor and anchorman. As every big old style Italian family, they spent together all the occasions and holidays performing and singing together, the traditional Neapolitan-Italian repertoire, playing music, dancing, acting and changing what usually would be a normal family gathering into some extraordinary theatre shows with a lot of fun and a professional mood… Continue reading →

Sarah Elizabeth Charles, RED

Truth Revolution Records is proud to introduce our newest artist Sarah Elizabeth Charles! 2012 has proven to be a year of success for TRR in the partnerships and releases we’ve accomplished, and Sarah Charles in no exception. This month she signed as an official TRR artist and we couldn’t be happier, especially on the cusp of her upcoming release, “RED”. This album comes after her successful release with Manner Effect and she’s kept the momentum going by putting together her Quartet. The S.E. Charles Quartet, composed of Sarah (vocals), Jesse Elder (piano), Burniss Earl Travis (bass), and John Davis (drums), has been together for two years working toward the sound that they have discovered today: one rooted in a musically intuitive nature and strong personal connections. This special group formed a special bond which in turn produced this very special album. Continue reading →

Ranee Lee is a true Renaissance woman. In addition to a career as a jazz singer that has taken her to stages in front of her fans around the globe, Lee is also a songwriter, award-winning actress, children’s book author, and jazz educator. Despite that resume, Lee actually got her start as a dancer. In an interview with Peter Kerr of The Montrealer, she said, “I was dancing with an Afro-Cuban touring dance troupe. We were in a small town in Ontario, and had to extend the length of our performance to fill the time allotted for the show. I was chosen to sing some songs with the band to fill that time, and the audience loved it! Continue reading →

“Her songwriting abilities continue to demonstrate a laudable maturity.” – Chris Loudon, JazzTimes

“Though vocalist Halie Loren has made a name for herself by bringing her warm and inviting alto to bear on a mixture of pop and jazz classics, she has received far too little recognition in the United States.” – Dan Bilawsky, All About Jazz

Melody Gardot, THE ABSENCE

Melody Gardot -][- THE ABSENCE –Mp3– [Verve Music, 2012] –

The Absence is the third record from Grammy-nominated Melody Gardot. Produced by Heitor Pereira, renowned for his work as a film composer (Despicable Me, It’s Complicated, From Prada to Nada) and world-class session guitarist (Sting, Seal, Caetano Veloso), the Brazilian-born, US-based artist shared Melody’s enthusiasm for driving off the beaten path of Western pop, jazz, blues and soul. And he was as adventurous as Melody when it came to inventive sonic ideas.

From the deserts of Morocco to the streets of Lisboa, from the tango bars of Buenos Aires to the beaches of Brazil, The Absence captures the essence of each of these exotic locales, while at the same time remaining quintessentially Melody Gardot. -[Album Description]-

Imani Uzuri, THE GYPSY DIARIES

The mysterious figure on the moonlit railway platform, the passerby on the dusty road are not strangers; they are friends and fellow travelers.

And to stunning vocalist and thoughtful, globally-inspired composer Imani Uzuri, they spark melodies and musical connections. With the beautiful growl of a blueswoman and the sweetness of a nightingale, Uzuri finds the deep ties that bind her rural Carolina roots to Eastern Europe and North Africa, that bind the purr of sitar strings and the ripple of Japanese folk flute to African-American traditions and the international arts underground. Alison Wedding started her music career at age two, singing for family and friends in the living room. But it was not until she walked into a jazz ensemble at her fine arts high school in Dallas, Texas, that she was first introduced to jazz. The harmonies, chord progressions, and rhythms fascinated her. She listened constantly to horn players, learning their solos, and with the help of her mentor Dave Alexander, Alison began to explore improvisation, which has become one of her greatest skills.
