Greetings’ jazz aficionados, I’m back with another slice of distinctive, amusing, and insinuating sounds, immaculate melodies, relentless rhythms attached to the opulent flavors embedded & exalted freely from the vibrant voice of jazz is here to quench our ongoing thirst for quality music.

Featured Album of the Week

The-Stanley-Clarke-Band

Stanley Clarke -|- Stanley Clarke Band – [Heads Up International, 2010]

Unlike his previous acoustic bass releases, Clarke feels that this album’s music is fresh and different from just about anything he’s done before. Produced by Clarke and Lenny White, the range of collaborative material on The Stanley Clarke Band has allowed him to venture to new levels of experimentation, utilizing his arsenal of bass instruments. Clarke compares this new release to the first three albums of his solo career: Journey to Love, Stanley Clarke, and School Days, with long extended electric pieces that take the listener on a kind of journey.

“Technically, it’s a Stanley Clarke record, but it’s very much a band-oriented record at the same time,” says Clarke. “I may be the leader, but everyone played an important role in what emerged. If a project like this can be looked at like a ship, I’d be the one steering the ship and keeping everybody on course. But all hands were definitely on deck, and everyone played an important role in getting us to our destination.” —Concord Music Continue reading →

NO HOLDING BACK FOR SAX MASTER GERALD ALBRIGHT ON JUNE 15 HEADS UP RELEASE

Gerald Albright - Pushing the Envelope

Gerald Albright | Pushing The Envelope – [Heads Up International, 2010]

Jazz and R&B icon Gerald Albright is considered to be one of the most innovative and successful artists of the last twenty-five years. With the June 15, 2010, release of Pushing The Envelope on Heads Up International, a division of Concord Music Group, Albright’s super cool side is back. With its polished soul/jazz vibe, Pushing The Envelope is a showcase for Albright’s remarkably fine balance of songcraft and musicianship, and features special guest appearances by Fred Wesley on trombone, Earl Klugh on acoustic guitar and George Duke on acoustic piano.

Produced and arranged by Albright, Pushing The Envelope provides the perfect opportunity for this master musician/saxophonist/songwriter to exhibit his skills. He plays soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, flutes, bass guitar, and keyboards, and also handles synthesizer, EWI and drum programming. Albright’s band on most of the album includes keyboardists Tracy Carter and Luther “Mano” Hanes, guitarist Ricky Watford and drummer Ricky Lawson. Continue reading →

Gerald Albright, GIVING MYSELF TO YOU

Gerald Albright -][- Giving Myself To You –Mp3– [Atlantic Records, 1995 | Review]

By now, many of you have had the pleasure to meet virtuoso saxophonist Gerald Albright’s music. His timbre continues to simmer with a compassionate yet conversational in tone therefore allowing him to have one of the most distinctive voices in instrumental music. “Giving Myself To You,” [my favorite] his 1995 release on Atlantic Records is in my opinion was a defining moment for him as a soloist. With this project he expanded his chops and compositional palette by offering listeners and opportunity to hear him in a different context.
