Mark McKnight -][- Do or Die –MP3– [Whirlwind Recordings, 2012] –

Mark McKnight’s “singing, high-energy” (Journal of Music in Ireland) improvisational approach has led to him being described in terms such as “an exceptional talent” and “the future of Irish Jazz guitar” (Irish Times). Still in his 20’s, McKnight, a graduate of Boston’s Berklee College of Music, has toured throughout Europe (Austria, Germany, Czech Rep., Denmark, Germany, Poland, Norway, Solvenia, Slovakia, Switzerland), performed and/or recorded with such internationally recognised musicians as Seamus Blake, Terell Stafford, Tim Warfield, Jason Rebello, Bill Carrothers, Sam Yahel, Will Vinson and Mark Ferber and appeared at major jazz Festivals including London, Cork, Glasgow, Edinburgh, 12 Points and Montreux, being awarded 3rd place in the Montreux International Jazz Guitar Competition 2008. AVAILABLE JUNE 19 ON SLY DOG RECORDS
“His guitar sound is the cleanest on the planet. No jive, no distortion, no tricks. He doesn’t waste a note, no flash–all content. It is a jazzman’s touch amidst the deeply felt blues sensibility that makes one think of another Detroit guitar icon, Kenny Burrell.” – Bob Porter, WBGO

Guitarist Johnnie Bassett is a special bluesman, possessing a certain inspired individuality and skill set rarely found these days. In a career dating back to the early 1950s, the spry 76-year-old has earned many accolades–just last year he copped Detroit Music Awards for “Outstanding Blues/R&B Instrumentalist” and “Outstanding Blues Artist/Group.” Well regarded in the Great Lakes region and blues America, yes, but arguably even more admired in Europe, where he’s a favorite of festival-goers. Bassett’s familiarity with jazz, R&B and soul is just as considerable as his blues knowledge; he’s held his own in the fast company of luminaries from various strains of great American music including Ruth Brown, Big Joe Turner, Smokey Robinson, Tina Turner, Dinah Washington, former neighbor John Lee Hooker and a young guitar fledgling named Jimi Hendrix. Peter White, HERE WE GO

Peter White -][- Here We Go –MP3– [Heads Up, 2012] –

After nearly four decades of writing, recording and touring – either as a sideman or a solo artist – Peter White still seeks out the road not yet traveled. Whether it’s new songs, new ideas, new styles or new collaborators, this virtuoso of contemporary jazz, classical, pop and Spanish guitar is at his best when standing on the edge of creative territory waiting to be explored. For White, it’s always about the journey and where it will take him, and he’s always ready to go. This sense of adventure is at the heart of Here We Go, the 11-song set, co-produced by White and long time collaborator DC (George Benson, Al Jarreau, Bob James, Jeffrey Osborne) includes a range of original material written in the recent and distant past and features guest spots from saxophonists David Sanborn and Kirk Whalum.
