Convert Your iPhone Into Wireless Laptop Numpad

iPhone Numberkey

The most selling laptops in the market have 15 inch screen, they all lack the numpad because there is no space to fit in. The netbooks are selling like hotcakes and same is the case with them. I didn’t find the need for numpad until I started working with Office Excel 2010.

A good wireless numberpad from Logitech cost around $40, but if you have an iPhone you can spend only $2 and convert your iPhone into a wireless numpad. NumberKey is a small app that can convert your iPhone into a wireless touch number keypad.

It can connect via both WiFi and direct wireless connection(ad-hoc) with Windows and Mac. You will need to install the NumberKey Connect app on the system. Once installed, it will automatically detect your iPhone and show the status. Hit Connect to establish a connection, make sure the app is running on iPhone at the same time.

iPhone Update

iTunes Update

iPhone/iPod touch only: Apple today announced an update to iPhone OS 3.1, introducing a new “Genius” recommendation feature for the App Store, bug fixes and performance boosters, and several other small but worthwhile updates.

It’s also added a Ringtone section to the App Store on your device (for a whopping $1.29 a pop—which is why we recommend making them yourself [Windows guide; Mac guide]). Other than that, Apple’s not promising a lot from this update other than support for the newly released iTunes 9, its new features (e.g., Genius Mixes), and a few other nice tweaks. Below is a quick look at some of the other most notable updates from the release notes:

* Save video from Mail and MMS into Camera Roll (We’ll believe the MMS saving when we finally see MMS)
* Option to “Save as new clip” when trimming a video on iPhone 3GS
* Better iPhone 3G Wi-Fi performance when Bluetooth is turned on
* Paste phone numbers into the Keypad
* Anti-phishing features in Safari
* Improved Exchange calendar syncing and invitation handling

Hit up iTunes, plug in your device, and click the Check for Updates button to get started on the 240+MB download.

Pod To PC

Pod To PC

Windows only: Pod to PC can grab the music and movies off nearly any Windows-formatted iPod for transferring to your PC, and avoids duplicates while doing so.

Install and fire up the software, and if your iPod is connected by a USB transfer cable, Pod to PC should find it and offer up basic stats:

Most notable is that, along with an iTunes-like read on space use, iPod name, and the like, Pod to PC shows how many of the tracks on a device are already loaded into iTunes on your computer. So that “Automatic Transfer” button smooshed into the lower-right corner (Pod to PC has a pretty rough graphical interface, in case you couldn’t tell) does exactly that, grabbing uncopied tracks and placing them. Or you can tackle a transfer manually:

iPhone Update

Apple has just released the 2.2.1 update for iPhones and iPod touches today, complete with various bug-fix promises for Safari, Mail, and the Camera app.

The update applies to all versions (iPhone and iPhone 3G) and most likely to both generations of the iPod touch. (Just plug in your device and hit Update to find out for sure.) It’s not a terribly exciting update, so don’t expect any cool new features. (Sorry to all you unreasonable folks wanting MMS and copy-and-paste.) If you’ve jailbroken your iPhone, you should hold tight on the upgrade until we see whether or not 2.2.1 is jailbreakable. ~ Source: Lifehacker.com
