Cynthia Felton, Freedom Jazz Dance

Dr. Cynthia J. Felton serves as Artistic Director of The Ethnomusicology Library of American Heritage, a library that features a collection of sources that explores the study of music from a social and cultural aspect.

Currently based in Los Angeles, Cynthia is active as a performer and an educator. Her background prepared her well for both career areas. She has a Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music, a Master of Arts degree from New York University in Jazz Performance, and a Doctorate in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California. It’s by no accident Harmonicist extraordinaire Grégoire Maret is one of those significant artists that comes into our lives and touches the deepest emotions of our heart and soul with passion, grace and intrigue. Moreover, his “Self-Titled” project on eOne Entertainment Maret’s unwavering and intuitive suites unfolds the opulent tonality, immediate rhythms and compelling melodies driven by his spellbinding creativity as a soloist is exactly what I look for musically.

While growing up in Genève, Switzerland with his Harlem born mother and Swiss born father it had to be a culturally interesting yet inspiring adventure for Grégoire. His parents obviously wanted the best for him and pursued the proper education, influences with an array of musical experiences was vital for his growth. Therefore, Grégoire spend time building his musical bridges at the prestigious Conservatoire Superieur de Musique de Genève and later he decided to undertake jazz studies at New York’s New School University. JEFF "TAIN" WATTS' FAMILY & LAURA KAHLE'S CIRCULAR

The Pittsburgh-born drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts and the Australian-American trumpeter Laura Kahle are the latest in a long line of artists to tie the knot. Their two new spectacular CD’s, Circular and Family, are released on Watts’ Dark Key Music label.

Kahle arrived in New York in 2004, performed with Bill Lee and the Natural Spiritual Orchestra, and has arranged for Watts and The Danish Radio Big Band, Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Branford Marsalis Septet featuring the music of Gil Evans. Circular, Kahle’s debut recording as a leader, features a diverse and dynamic array of sidemen including alto and tenor saxophonists Yosvanny Terry and J.D. Allen, bassist Orlando le Fleming and Watts on drums. Continue reading →
