Jeremy Pelt -][- WATER & EARTH – [High Note Records, 2013]

From his first professional gig with the Mingus band through his 10 CDs as a leader, Pelt has maintained remarkable forward momentum. His bands have been lauded for their intense interplay which calls to mind Wayne Shorter and Tony Williams.

It is the spirit 1969-70 Miles Davis that is conjured with this, Jeremy’s 2013 ensemble recording. Using some electronics – including Rhodes, Prophet and trumpet effects – the band defies categorization and, in Jeremy’s words, “isn’t about a change in direction as much as it’s about strengthening my commitment to my art at present.” -[::: Editorial Review | Amazon.com :::]-

Jeremy Pelt -][- Soul [HighNote, 2012]

Heralded for years as one of the rising stars in jazz, Jeremy Pelt has earned accolades for his staggering virtuosity, which has elicited comparisons to trumpet icons like Clifford Brown, Lee Morgan and Freddie Hubbard, as well as for his studious, cerebral approach to the music.

While he’s clearly the man in charge here, Soul is very much a band-focused release, with all five members of the group heard distinctively and insistently throughout.

Release Date: January 31, 2012

Noah Haidu -][- SLIPSTREAM – (MP3) – [Posi-Tone Records, 2011] – Music Review –

Noah Haidu - SLPISTREAM

Based in New York, pianist-composer Noah Haidu originally from Charlottesville, VA debuts with his engaging bop induced yet lyrically intense album titled “SLIPSTREAM” on Posi-Tone Records. All compositions on this recording were written by Haidu with the exception of “Just One of Those Things” composed by Cole Porter.

Out of the box “SLIPSTREAM,” sonically encompasses the familiar tonality and melodic attributes the masters in jazz has recorded for years. Is Noah Haidu doing anything audibly different or thought-provoking? Many view his sound as cutting edge, his music is rhythmically tight and harmonically on point. As I listen, his voice ascends while evenly balance in the language of jazz to provide potent melodies with substance which should generate lots of conversation about what this remarkable young musician has to offer anyone who is willing to listen. Jeremy Pelt - TALENTED MR. PELT (2011)

Jeremy Pelt -][- TALENTED MR. PELT – [HighNote, 2011] – January 25, 2011 –

Jeremy Pelt’s “The Talented Mr. Pelt” is just the kind of album one thinks of when it comes to how jazz is supposed to be: cool, confident, swinging and just a little mysterious.

Pelt’s group is that rarest of all things in jazz, a working band, and the familiarity and communication that come from extensive time spent playing together is evident.

All the players are among the foremost 30-something neo-bop players in jazz today giving the group an all-star-type reputation with a well-rehearsed sound that comes only with familiarity and countless gigs. —Amazon.com

Jeremy Pelt | Men of Honor – [HighNote, 2010]

Jeremy Pelt - Men of Honor

Walking the tightrope that is stretched between history and progress is a difficult task for a young jazz musician. During the last five years, Jeremy Pelt has explored many post-war jazz trends, but for his HighNote debut recording he has settled into the acoustic, post-bop format with his regular band that includes the tenor sax of J.D. Allen with the rhythm section of Danny Grissett, piano, Dwayne Burno, bass and Gerald Cleaver, drums.

One listen and it is easy to see why he was voted Rising Star on the Trumpet five years in a row by Downbeat and the Jazz Journalists Association.
