Frank McComb, THE LIVING ROOM

Frank McComb -][- THE LIVING ROOM –Mp3– [Boobeescoot Music, 2012] –

My original plan was to release a “Best Of” CD but it just didn’t come together quite the way I wanted it to so I decided to do an “unplugged” live CD. This CD, to me, is by far the most organic and raw project I’ve ever done as I’m not afraid to take chances. I’ve decided to take this chance with my LA based trio and record a CD with no production (2 track mix -no multi tracking), no overdubs (just a few edits), no backing vocals, no bells and no whistles. Instead, I welcome the mistakes, the voice cracks, the wrong notes on piano, microphone squeals and anything else that can go wrong in concert. Continue reading →

Brian Culbertson -][- DREAMS – [Verve Records, 2012] –

In the gentle lull of sleep, we re often enraptured in a vivid sequence of thoughts, images, and sensations. A lifelike realm where radiant colors, sounds, and illusions intersect, creating the most vibrant experience. This spring, prolific R&B/Jazz musician Brian Culbertson invites you to close your eyes, open your ears, and fall deep into a lush world of musical fantasy with his breathtaking thirteenth album Dreams. With the help of lauded guest vocalists Noel Gourdin, Vivian Green, and Stokley Williams of Mint Condition, Dreams masterfully melds jazz sensibility with an R&B flair in a wondrous mélange of enchanting grooves.

Last summer, I just started having these really vivid dreams, Culbertson says. I started waking up inspired to get into the studio and write songs. Songs that made me feel like those dreams. It s really strange for me, because I ve never written songs about being inspired by dreams. That s why this record is quite different. Continue reading →

Jeff Lorber Fusion -][- Galaxy -(MP3)- [Heads Up, 2012]

Trailblazing keyboardist/composer/producer Jeff Lorber revisits a sound he helped pioneer on his latest recording, Galaxy. Following up on his GRAMMY®-nominated 2010 release, Now Is The Time, Lorber again culls from his early catalog but gives a fresh approach to some of his most highly requested compositions, including “Wizard Island,” “City,” “The Samba” and “The Underground.” “Essentially this album is a part two,” Lorber says. “It features the same rhythm section, but it’s even more into the jazz fusion direction. It’s more energetic and the performances are tighter.” Continue reading →

Chick Corea

A jazz luminary since the early 1960s, Chick Corea is a prodigious performer and one of the most prolific composers of our time. From Return to Forever, to Origin, to the Elektric Band to his duo with Gary Burton and his numerous super trios and quartets, Chick Corea has been a transformative force in music for over 40 years, working in many styles and genres, and with musicians from the jazz, classical and pop music worlds.

This concert honors Corea with performances by Gary Burton, vibes; Tim Garland, tenor sax; Geoffrey Keezer, piano; Antonio Sanchez and Marcus Gilmore drums; Hans Glawischnig, bass; Steve Davis, trombone; Diane Monroe, violin; Michael Reynolds, Cello; and The Harlem String Quartet. This joyous celebration is a Chick-immersion not to be missed!

Presented in collaboration with Chamber Music America, which will honor Chick Corea during its National Conference, “Big Ideas for Presenting Small Ensembles,” January 14-17, 2010
