Paul Hardcastle, 19 BELOW ZERO

Paul Hardcastle -][- 19 BELOW ZERO – [Universal UK, 2012 | Import]

2012 two CD release from the British keyboardist, songwriter and producer. Paul Hardcastle rose to the top of the charts with his global hit ‘19‘ in the early ’80s. A ground breaking record at the time, Paul’s in-studio experimenting gave him a place in history as a pioneer of electronic production. His classic record ’19’ was #1 in 13 countries and led to the formation of Simon Fuller’s empire, 19 Management.

This double compilation album, which features nine brand new tracks, sees Paul at his best and includes; his sensational collaboration with Marvin Gaye, “Rainforest / What’s Going On”, an as yet unreleased original version of ’19’ and a brand new Sunday Morning mix of the legendary track by Rob Da Bank. The album also introduces his daughter Maxine Hardcastle on vocals. Kick back and take it easy to Disc One with a collection of tracks made to accompany sunrises and sunsets. Disc Two will up the tempo with some smooth tunes perfect for mooching around. Fontana.-[Editorial Review | Amazon.com]-

Philip Baker -][- HIGHER and HIGHER –Mp3– [Lmg Records, 2012] –

This project is my first since my mother passed in 2007. The melodies here tell a story of healing and realizations I have come to embrace along this to culmination. There is so much legacy here, reflecting the deposit she made into my siblings (8 of us) and I through the years. This project includes music that my son Samuel wrote when he was 13 years of age, as well as songs he helped produce/critique. It also includes the executive direction and consultation of one of my mentors John Stevenson. Also, it includes the creative foresight of another artist Bill Parrish, a great musician and songwriter.

The melodies here in this project as always are dedicated back to my Heavenly Father, but also to my mother as well. R.I.P. DBC! We desire that you enjoy this music while you drive, relax, and live your life to the fullest with much success! Life Music! Live a Life of Success! -[Album Notes | CDBaby]-

Stefan Schmid, exTENded

Stefan Schmid -][- exTENded –MP3– [Double Moon Records, 2012] –

When the “Who Is Who” of the young German jazz scene put their efforts completely at the service of one of their own, then they do it out of friendship, respect and admiration. For example, Niels Klein, Frederik Köster, Max von Einem, Robert Landfermann and Max Frankl, among others, play on Stefan Schmid’s album exTENded.

On one hand, the name exTENded describes the large ensemble project of Stefan Schmid composed of 10 musicians or – to put it more precisely – seven wind section players plus rhythm group. On the other hand, the debut album with 9 pieces is titled exTENded. Continue reading →

TGIF everyone, the weekend has finally arrived! Woe and behold during my quest to discover some new sounds I couldn’t believe what I was seeing keyboardist Steve Weingart is back with “Dialogue” his latest project. The multifaceted keyboardist teams up with a gorgeous, talented and funky bassist named Renee Jones who by the way is Steve’s wife. Together the dynamic duo serves up a tasty combination of a eleven song fusion set that’s bound to stay locked in the CD and MP3 player rotation for awhile … did I say tasty? Just in case you haven’t heard, “Dialogue” is exclusively for folks who thought jazz fusion was dead! —Rob Young | Urban Flux Media

Steve Weingart & Renee Jones Dialogue

Steve Weingart & Renee Jones -][- Dialogue –MP3– [Skeewa Music, 2011] –

Dialogue is the latest release by Steve Weingart. It is just as great as all the other releases he has released. He is an accomplished pianist/keyboardist/song-writer/composer. The music feels “current”. Hip grooves, flowing melodies, and great musicians. The entire set of songs on Dialogue are very interesting and inspiring. On Bass and Vocals is his wife, Renee Jones. Very talented musician. One of the trademarks of any great musician is their “signature”. Steve has a distinct signature in his playing. Effortless runs, melodic arrangements and a sense of cohesiveness with the band of musicians. You feel a sense that everyone is supporting one another in their performance. That comes forth in the music and makes the listening experience very enjoyable.

I highly recommend purchasing this CD/Download. I did and I can’t wait to hear more releases from Steve Weingart. —TRFB | Amazon.com Customer Review

Myra Melford & TrioM, The Guest House

Myra Melford & TrioM -][- The Guest House –MP3– [Yellowbird Records, 2012]

A fearless musical adventurer – in both her composing and playing – Myra Melford has followed a fascinating path since determining to forge a career in music in 1980. Having studied classical piano into her teens, she had no real exposure to jazz until college. Improvisation rekindled her early love of the piano, and she plunged in to develop a signature style.

At the keyboard, Melford recasts the blues and boogie-woogie of her native Chicago, folds in elements of the music of Eastern Europe and India, and blends them with the rangy, percussive avant-garde approach she cultivated in studies with Don Pullen and Henry Threadgill. This personal musical vocabulary is further enriched by a lush lyricism and organized by an architectural sense of composition that she derived from classical training. Continue reading →

Mike Prigodich, A Stitch in Time

Mike Prigodich -[|]- A Stitch in Time –MP3– [Mexican Mocha Music, 2011 | Review]

After recovering from cancer back on 2008, composer – keyboardist Mike Prigodich decided not to let this life altering disease keep him down. Instead, he submitted to first love writing music, and performing to rejuvenate his heart, mind and soul.

With this project, Prigodich pens a palette of eleven adventurous, complex and lively collage of music on this exceptional offering titled “A Stitch in Time” on Mexican Mocha Music produced by David Matthews.
