Michael Feinberg -][ – THE ELVIN JONES PROJECT –Mp3– [Sunnyside Communications, 2012] –

The classic John Coltrane Quartet of the 1960s was one of the most influential ensembles jazz has heard. The group’s influence has continued to spread in the world of contemporary jazz, as new generations of performers have trolled the Quartet’s catalog and those of its illustrious sidemen.

Twenty five year old bassist/bandleader Michael Feinberg was particularly inspired by the core of Coltrane’s rhythm section: drummer Elvin Jones. While he perused his favorite drummer’s catalog, Feinberg found himself drawn to the interplay the legendary percussionist had with a multitude of bassists. Feinberg soon discovered that his favorite bassists had had a significant musical relationship with Jones. The study of these relationships became the root of Feinberg’s project and subsequent recording: The Elvin Jones Project. Continue reading →

“And Albare? He sounds like a positive blend of the late Wes Montgomery and an early George Benson. Airy and light melodic improvisations and the themes reflect and inner harmony of boundless grace.” – Jazzpodium (Germany)

Albert Dadon (Albare), LONG WAY

Stream Tracks from Long Way

In 2011 Albert Dadon (Albare) came to the attention of Matthias Winckelmann, founder of prestigious German jazz label enja Records. Their mutual esteem led to the recording of a new project, Long Way. Produced by Winckelmann at his favorite Brooklyn studio, Studio Two, the album is a collaboration by some of the world’s finest musicians including triple GRAMMY® Award winning drummer Antonio Sanchez (Pat Metheny Group), saxophonist George Garzone (the Joe Lovano Nonet), pianist Leo Genovese (Esperanza Spalding), prolific harmonica player Hendrick Meurkens and Albare’s long time musical collaborator, bassist and composer, Evri (Evripedes Evripidou). Leo Genovese -\\- Unlocked [Ropeadope, 2008]

Calling Leo Genovese a “pianist” just doesn’t do him justice. Even the term “musician” is rather limiting. Sure, he’s a great musician and a great jazz pianist but Leo’s goals are more existential. Armed with 88 keys, Leo writes and performs music that feeds off of dissonance and unconventional improvisation all under the guise of “jazz.” But what Leo really wants to do is exist between the notes, in a state of musical enlightenment.

Born and raised in Venado Tuerto, Argentina, Leo had an early musical influence through his mother who played classical piano. It must be in the genes; Leo soon found himself behind the keys, studying classical piano at the National University of Rosario. It wouldn’t be until 2001 when the native-Argentinian would make his way to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. where he studied with Danilo Perez, Joanne Brackeen, Frank Carlberg and Ed Tomassi.
