Al Jarreau and the Metropole Orkest – Live

Al Jarreau and the Metropole Orkest – Live –Mp3– [Concord Records, 2012] –

Al Jarreau has little interest in boundaries or preconceived limitations. Since the mid-1970s, this versatile singer has applied his distinctive and instantly recognizable vocal style – a unique combination of lyrical swing and captivating vocalese – to a broad spectrum of musical genres. With this eclectic approach, he has earned much success along the way – enough to position him as the only vocalist in history to claim Grammy Awards in the three distinct genres of jazz, pop and R&B. “…a singer with an innate ability for passionate songwriting that one cannot learn.” – Billboard Magazine

Abiah, LIFE AS A BALLAD

Ever since the untimely departure of Luther Vandross, the American pop scene has been absent of a Black American male balladeer possessed of chops beyond belief, staunch lyricism and emotional maturity. Abiah (pronounced Ah-bee-yah) more than adequately answers the call of that absence with an album and a presence that is sensuous, soulful, honest, grown-up and quite passionate about restoring vocal excellence to the contemporary airwaves.

Who is Abiah? These are the bare facts: he is a seasoned balladeer possessed of a five-and a half octave range; an established vocal coach and former Universal Republic recording artist; and he is of Ghanaian, Cuban, Native American descent, though raised in Rochester, NY. Continue reading →

Frank McComb, THE LIVING ROOM

Frank McComb -][- THE LIVING ROOM –Mp3– [Boobeescoot Music, 2012] –

My original plan was to release a “Best Of” CD but it just didn’t come together quite the way I wanted it to so I decided to do an “unplugged” live CD. This CD, to me, is by far the most organic and raw project I’ve ever done as I’m not afraid to take chances. I’ve decided to take this chance with my LA based trio and record a CD with no production (2 track mix -no multi tracking), no overdubs (just a few edits), no backing vocals, no bells and no whistles. Instead, I welcome the mistakes, the voice cracks, the wrong notes on piano, microphone squeals and anything else that can go wrong in concert. Continue reading →

Peter Cincotti -][- METROPOLIS – [Heads Up, 2012] –

With its hard-driving beats, funky rhythms and stellar pop-centric sensibility, vocalist, pianist and composer Peter Cincotti’s fourth album, Metropolis, might be perceived as a sharp left turn from the jazz-focused, boy-crooner sound that established his career a decade ago. But Cincotti sees Metropolis, for which he wrote all 12 songs, as more evolutionary than revolutionary, marking his continuance along a musical path that he started mapping as early as age three. Gregory Porter, BE GOOD

Gregory Porter -[|]- Be Good -(MP3)- [Motéma Music, 2012 | Review]

From the beginning, vocalist Gregory Porter emerged on the music scene in 2010 with one of the most talked about debut recordings in recent memory to eventually land at the number position on both iTunes and Amazon in the U.K. with his soulful and inspiring debut titled “Water” on Motéma Music. In the present tense, songwriter and vocalist extraordinaire Gregory Porter promptly returns with his incomparable lyrical bravado to masterfully uncover another brilliant and tasteful portrait of great songs on “Be Good” produced by the Brian Bacchus.

With his sophomore effort in the works, Porter summon veteran producer Brian Bacchus to the studio to add his touch to eleven of the twelve songs on “Be Good.” Bacchus has many successes to his credit including Norah Jones, Cassandra Wilson, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and Lizz Wright along with a host of others. Accompanying Porter on this project is his working band featuring: the incredible Chip Crawford [piano], Aaron James on [bass], Emanuel Harrold plays drums along with Kamau Kenyatta and Yosuke Sato on saxophones. Also guest appearances by Keyon Harrold on trumpet and Tivon Pennicott on tenor horn. Continue reading →

Lloyd Gregory - LLOYD GREGORY

Lloyd Gregory -][- LLOYD GREGORY – [Roxboro Entertainment, 2010]

A master of both acoustic and electric guitar as well as a musical director who has played and recorded with artists as diverse as Martha Reeves and Gerald Albright, San Francisco-based Lloyd Gregory’s smooth, soulful, melodic, and flowing sound evokes unique hints of his extensive R&B roots. His fifth album’s tracks include standouts “Brazilian Sea”; and “Moment in Time”. Music magazine Minor 7th: Acoustic Music Review says, “Lloyd expertly fuses soul, pop and jazz, forging a hybrid that is both enjoyable and intellectually stimulating.” Gregory himself says of the new record, “As we grow in time, age, experience, knowledge and wisdom, there comes a time when it’s time to put it all to music and share it with the world. For this album, it was time to make music for my friends.”

“Lloyd is what I like to call a household musician,” Roxboro founder Stanley Clarke says. “He is just a sweet warm guy, which comes out in his music. His music reminds me of a modern-day Wes Montgomery.” –Roxboro Entertainment | BIOGRAPHY
