Marcus Miller, RENAISSANCE

Marcus Miller -][- RENAISSANCE – [Concord Jazz, 2012] –

An album entitled Renaissance is long overdue for the widely acclaimed Renaissance Man Marcus Miller. In among the most enviable careers in music, Miller is a two-time GRAMMY®-winner and the composer/producer of ten critically acclaimed and genre-defying albums (seven studio and three live). Even the most devoted follower may be astonished to realize that Renaissance is only his eighth studio project since his 1983 debut, Suddenly, considering the abundance of occasions Miller’s name has appeared within album credits and that he has dazzled with performances, compositions and productions – in the company of some of the world’s most respected and accomplished players and superstars – from the mid-`70s to the present. Grégoire Maret -][- Grégoire Maret –MP3– [eOne Entertainment, 2012 | Review]

It’s by no accident Harmonicist extraordinaire Grégoire Maret is one of those significant artists that comes into our lives and touches the deepest emotions of our heart and soul with passion, grace and intrigue. Moreover, his “Self-Titled” project on eOne Entertainment Maret’s unwavering and intuitive suites unfolds the opulent tonality, immediate rhythms and compelling melodies driven by his spellbinding creativity as a soloist is exactly what I look for musically.

While growing up in Genève, Switzerland with his Harlem born mother and Swiss born father it had to be a culturally interesting yet inspiring adventure for Grégoire. His parents obviously wanted the best for him and pursued the proper education, influences with an array of musical experiences was vital for his growth. Therefore, Grégoire spend time building his musical bridges at the prestigious Conservatoire Superieur de Musique de Genève and later he decided to undertake jazz studies at New York’s New School University. Marcus Miller - Night in Monte Carlo

Marcus Miller | ‘Night in Monte Carlo‘ – [Phantasm Import, 2010]

::BIO:: Primarily a bassist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, Marcus Miller has worked on hundreds of sessions — crossing jazz, R&B, and rock — and has released several solo recordings since his late ’70s beginnings with Bobbi Humphrey and Lonnie Liston Smith. Despite the many hats he has worn — improviser, interpreter, arranger, songwriter, film-music composer, bassist, clarinetist, saxophonist — none of them have been put on for the sake of the whim. Never one to merely get his feet wet, Miller has been a utility player in the most extreme and prolific sense.

Miller was a fixture as a performer in New York’s jazz clubs before he was old enough to drive. Born in Brooklyn on June 14, 1959, and raised in nearby Jamaica, he knew how to play several instruments with ease by the time he entered his teenage years. His father, who directed a choir and played organ, had a profound impact upon his musical upbringing. Once he broke in with Humphrey and Smith, he gained steady work with the likes of Dave Grusin, Earl Klugh, Grover Washington, Jr., Chaka Khan, and Bob James. During 1981 and 1982, the in-demand musician went on the road with longtime personal hero Miles Davis and would end up working with him on several albums — including Tutu and Music from Siesta — after that.
