Truvibe - TRU BEGINNINGS

Truvibe (US) -][- Tru Beginnings -(MP3)- [TruVibe Productions, 2011]

After a couple cups of coffee, meditation, and the Saturday paper my usual quest to discover new jazz and possibly other interesting sounds begins. This morning I was pleasantly surprised to stumble into some samples by this group called TruVibe. They are a up and coming neosoul jazz group that’s about to uncover some vital nuggets for music lovers to enjoy and savor.

In the meantime, I haven’t been able to find hardly any bio information I stand corrected do to the excitement I over looked the groups label “TruVibe Productions.” Go here, to read the Bio about this truly amazing group.

If you’re in the market for music that’s influenced by violinist Noel Pointer, Regina Carter, Karen Briggs, and Roy Ayers then be sure and check out the cool and vibrant sounds of Truvibe. At your leisure, visit and bookmark their page at Facebook.com.

Tracy Hamlin | Better Days [DMH RECORDS, LLC, 2009]

Tracy Hamlin

Well, my fellow music aficionados I’m honored to introduce the gifted vocalist and multi-linguist Tracy Hamlin and her poignant new recording appropriately titled”Better Days.”

~ The Urban Flux

“Better Days” is Tracy Hamlin’s second solo project. This project combines her unique styles of R&B, Jazz, and Neo/Soul into an adult contemporary offering.

While Tracy Hamlin is perhaps best known for her longtime association with Pieces of a Dream, her first solo album, “Seasons” set the tone for her to take her place center stage. Featuring both Najee on flute and Pieces of a Dream, this stellar collection from 2005 proved to be a wonderful representation of her rich vocal tones. Attracting both R&B and jazz aficionados, “Seasons” was a glowing affirmation of her burgeoning talent.

Now, Tracy is back with her sophomore album, “Better Days”. An excellent follow up to “Seasons”, “Better Days” gives the listening audience an accurate illustration of Ms. Hamlin’s musical world. Songs like, “You’ve Got To Let Go” and “No Regrets”, pleasantly place one in a position of self-reflection while “Better Days” and “Free” offer lyrics of hope and optimism for the future. With producers, Phil Davis, Eric Valentine and Kelvin Wooten on board, “Better Days” is sure to take listeners on a refreshing musical journey.

Considering all the hot jazz releases out this week [ Terence Blanchard, Robert Glasper, Hargrove, Brian Bromberg, Najee, Stefon Harris, James Carter, Bela Fleck etc] music enthusiast must be in awe because this is possibly the biggest new music week to this year. With that said, after hearing this lady live on the Tom Joyner Morning Show earlier this week I couldn’t resist posting this little diamond in the ruff … her name is Ledisi. “Turn Me Loose,” is her second major label recording. Now, for those of you who are looking for “real” soul music, killer vocals, rockin’ yet funky music then Ledisi without a doubt has got the juice … she’s what’s up!

Ledisi | Turn Me Loose [Verve Forecast, 2009]

Ledisi wanted to make a few bold artistic changes this time out. But just before she started work on her sophomore Verve release, Turn Me Loose, she hit a wall. The singer-songwriter had a bad case of writer’s block that stretched for six months. Ledisi was petrified as she tried to figure out how to follow up her 2007 Verve debut, Lost & Found. The album garnered strong reviews and two Grammy® nominations, including one for best new artist.

She also reunited with producer Rex Rideout, who contributed greatly to the sound of Lost & Found. But for Turn Me Loose, Ledisi didn’t want to play it safe. With help from the four other producers (Ivan & Carvin, Chief Xcel, Chucky Thompson & Fyre Dept), the artist braided brilliant strains of the different sounds she loved while growing up in Oakland, Calif. Rock, blues, classic soul, funk and hip-hop are all fused together throughout Turn Me Loose. Ledisi often merges the old with the new.

What’s up everyone … as you can see I’m a tad bit late with the review from this weekend music festival in Chattanooga. Here you go …

Once I arrived at the second annual festival on this lovely unseasonably cool fall like Saturday evening I heard this powerful yet unfamiliar voice singing from a distance with swagger normally displayed by veterans. As I approached the stage area I immediately notice this stunning young lady working the crowd with her bubbly charm and colorful personality I couldn’t help but notice her red dress with these huge white polka dots worked the audience as her band jam even with the seasoned vets yet to come. Her name, get this Algebra from Atlanta, GA. Unfortunately, for me I was only able to catch one song yet and extended version by her. However, the performance I caught was a twenty minute jam session well worth everyone’s time to engage in the music of this super talented young performer.
