Jordan Young, CYMBAL MELODIES

Jordan Young -][- CYMBAL MELODIES – [Posi-Tone Records, 2012] –

Bells are ringing when drummer Jordan Young hits the set with his debut release for Posi-Tone, aptly entitled Cymbal Melodies. Indeed, Young succeeds in pushing his melodic message to the forefront with skillful leadership, while he ably demonstrates a total command of his own instrument. The session sings and soars from start to finish, featuring the B-3 wizardry and rhythmic genius of Brian Charette, the sensationally sizzling lines of guitarist Avi Rothbard, and Joe Sucato on sax for four tunes.

Critical listeners will certainly enjoy this flowing and thoughtful program of swinging selections and should agree that Cymbal Melodies announces that Jordan Young is an important and emerging new voice in jazz. -[Editorial Review | Amazon]-

Tom Tallitsch unleashes a big sound and lets his horn do the talking with “Heads or Tales,” his debut CD for Posi- Tone. Joining Tallitsch on the date is label mate organist Jared Gold, along with the steadfast rhythm section of guitarist Dave Allen and drummer Mark Ferber.

Featuring a program of exciting new compositions, and one tasty Neil Young cover thrown in for good measure, this session flows like a compelling collection of short stories, and will certainly speak volumes to discerning listeners about the quality Tallitsch’s talent as player and as a composer. Orrin Evans -][- FLIP THE SCRIPT –Mp3– [Posi-Tone Records, 2012] –

Orrin Evans turns over a new leaf and strides confidently back onto the scene to “Flip the Script.” Evans continues to make a bold statements with a strong piano trio date featuring bassist Ben Wolfe and drummer Donald Edwards. While the session stays straight ahead and features some hard swinging highlights, the music is also elegantly lyrical and clearly suggestive of a modern jazz sensibility.
