Reggie Quinerly, MUSIC INSPIRED BBY FREEDMAN TOWN

Reggie Quinerly -][- MUSIC INSPIRED BY FREEDMAN TOWN – [Redefinition Music, 2012] –

Originally from Houston, Texas, Reggie Quinerly began playing the drums at an early age. His dedication and curious nature led his parents to search out private instructors Lester Grant and Samuel Dinkins III who would challenge and hone his musical skills.

After graduating from the renowned High School for the Visual and Performing Arts (HSPVA) he made his transition into the New York jazz scene, continuing his studies at the New School University. Since relocating in 1999 he has performed with the likes of saxophonist Joe Lovano, NEA Jazz Master Von Freeman, Branford Marsalis, Seamus Blake, James Spaulding, Greg Osby, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and pianist John Hicks. He has also had the fortune of learning from master drummers Jimmy Cobb, Joe Chambers, Michael Carvin, Lewis Nash and Kenny Washington. Another recent achievement includes the completion of his Master’s degree from The Juilliard School’s Jazz division. Continue reading →

Sarah Elizabeth Charles, RED

Truth Revolution Records is proud to introduce our newest artist Sarah Elizabeth Charles! 2012 has proven to be a year of success for TRR in the partnerships and releases we’ve accomplished, and Sarah Charles in no exception. This month she signed as an official TRR artist and we couldn’t be happier, especially on the cusp of her upcoming release, “RED”. This album comes after her successful release with Manner Effect and she’s kept the momentum going by putting together her Quartet. The S.E. Charles Quartet, composed of Sarah (vocals), Jesse Elder (piano), Burniss Earl Travis (bass), and John Davis (drums), has been together for two years working toward the sound that they have discovered today: one rooted in a musically intuitive nature and strong personal connections. This special group formed a special bond which in turn produced this very special album. Continue reading →

“Manner Effect is a collection of new voices on the jazz scene in New York. Together they’re creating new music that is inspiring, pleasant and promising. The writing is excellent and so are the musicians. An outstanding band, they bring new sparkles to the music while keeping an ear for the tradition.” — Vincent Herring (internationally renowned saxophonist)

Manner Effect -][- ABUNDANCE –MP3– [Manner Effect, 2012] –

Manner Effect is a New York City based band that formed in 2009. Combining several musical bags and diverse upbringings, they united around a shared musical vision: to perform music they are passionate about and they know people can feel. “We decided as a band that we wanted to make our music aesthetically pleasing,” says pianist Logan Thomas. “It’s not so much about the solos but about the song itself.”

In the pursuit of clarity, each song undergoes a dramatic editing and sculpting process. Since the band’s formation, a weekly residency at a Times Square venue, a two-week tour throughout the Midwest, and a run through New England has helped them hone their style. Continue reading →
