Adobe Air: If you’re looking to put a flourish or two on an invitation, business card, or web page, Livebrush makes it super simple to create your own designs without purchasing advanced vector-based software.

Live Brush, Adobe AirUsing Livebrush is as simple as swirling your mouse about. If you want to get more nuanced you can—the examples on their site show some really detailed image results. For adding just a bit of visual interest to the sidebar of your blog or the edge of your stationary, however, Livebrush is easy to pick up and play with.

You can choose from different styles, fine-tuning your brush behavior and weight as you go. Livebrush supports layers and you can export the final product as a PNG file. Upgrading to the Pro version for $10 unlocks additional features like the ability to export vectors. Check out the video below to see Livebrush in action:

Windows only: Pod to PC can grab the music and movies off nearly any Windows-formatted iPod for transferring to your PC, and avoids duplicates while doing so.

Install and fire up the software, and if your iPod is connected by a USB transfer cable, Pod to PC should find it and offer up basic stats:

Most notable is that, along with an iTunes-like read on space use, iPod name, and the like, Pod to PC shows how many of the tracks on a device are already loaded into iTunes on your computer. So that “Automatic Transfer” button smooshed into the lower-right corner (Pod to PC has a pretty rough graphical interface, in case you couldn’t tell) does exactly that, grabbing uncopied tracks and placing them. combination of hardware, software, and online store has made it many fans, but for some folks, the iTunes way of doing things feels unbearably confining.

If you love your iPod, but can’t stand being tied to iTunes, there are some compelling and capable Mac and PC iTunes alternatives that can sync with your iPod. Depending on your iPod model, you’ll probably still need to keep iTunes around for firmware updates, video purchases, games, and some advanced features (calendar syncing, for instance), but there’s no reason you can’t sync your music and podcasts using a different program.

Each of the following media jukeboxes has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. This list isn’t meant to be comprehensive (by all means, add your own suggestions in the comments section), I’m just taking an opportunity to highlight my personal favorites.
