Tim Warfield, EYE OF THE BEHOLDER

Tim Warfield -][- EYE OF THE BEHOLDER – [Criss Cross, 2013]

On Eye Of The Beholder, his seventh recording leader recording for Criss Cross (and 12th label appearance overall), tenor and soprano saxophonist Tim Warfield draws on musical relationships that have shaped his artistry from the very start. Pianist Cyrus Chestnut and drummer Clarence Penn, both of whom appeared on Warfield’s 1994 debut and several other sessions, bring their powerful and sensitive presence to this new quinter date.

Rodney Whitaker provides an unshakable yet flexible foundation on bass. Trumpet great Nicholas Payton, who featured Warfield in his own incendiary quintet of the mid to late ’90, comes on board and contributes brilliant playing as well as original music. -[Editorial Review | Amazon.com]-

Reggie Quinerly -][- MUSIC INSPIRED BY FREEDMAN TOWN – [Redefinition Music, 2012] –

Originally from Houston, Texas, Reggie Quinerly began playing the drums at an early age. His dedication and curious nature led his parents to search out private instructors Lester Grant and Samuel Dinkins III who would challenge and hone his musical skills.

After graduating from the renowned High School for the Visual and Performing Arts (HSPVA) he made his transition into the New York jazz scene, continuing his studies at the New School University. Since relocating in 1999 he has performed with the likes of saxophonist Joe Lovano, NEA Jazz Master Von Freeman, Branford Marsalis, Seamus Blake, James Spaulding, Greg Osby, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and pianist John Hicks. He has also had the fortune of learning from master drummers Jimmy Cobb, Joe Chambers, Michael Carvin, Lewis Nash and Kenny Washington. Another recent achievement includes the completion of his Master’s degree from The Juilliard School’s Jazz division. Continue reading →

Tim Warfield - A Sentimental Journey

Tim Warfield -||- A Sentimental Journey – [Criss Cross, 2010]

On his sixth Criss Cross leader date, saxophonist Tim Warfield reconvenes his bandmates – trumpeter extraordinaire Terell Stafford, Hammond B3 master Pat Bianchi, and Joey de Francesco’s drummer-of-choice Byron Landham – from the 2007 date One For Shirley for an informed, soulful exploration of American songbook repertoire.

A life-long Pennsylvanian, Warfield learned how to navigate such terrain during a long association with the legendary Philadelphia keyboardist Shirley Scott. He applies those lessons to great effect, unfailingly channeling technical derring-do towards imperatives of emotional expression and swing.
