Reggie Quinerly, MUSIC INSPIRED BBY FREEDMAN TOWN

Reggie Quinerly -][- MUSIC INSPIRED BY FREEDMAN TOWN – [Redefinition Music, 2012] –

Originally from Houston, Texas, Reggie Quinerly began playing the drums at an early age. His dedication and curious nature led his parents to search out private instructors Lester Grant and Samuel Dinkins III who would challenge and hone his musical skills.

After graduating from the renowned High School for the Visual and Performing Arts (HSPVA) he made his transition into the New York jazz scene, continuing his studies at the New School University. Since relocating in 1999 he has performed with the likes of saxophonist Joe Lovano, NEA Jazz Master Von Freeman, Branford Marsalis, Seamus Blake, James Spaulding, Greg Osby, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and pianist John Hicks. He has also had the fortune of learning from master drummers Jimmy Cobb, Joe Chambers, Michael Carvin, Lewis Nash and Kenny Washington. Another recent achievement includes the completion of his Master’s degree from The Juilliard School’s Jazz division. Continue reading →

Erimaj, CONFLICT OF A MAN

Erimaj -][- Conflict Of A Man –Mp3– [Don’t Cry Recordings, 2012] –

From the abstract mind of world-renowned drummer Jamire Williams, ERIMAJ is a progressive new band stirring up the NYC scene. This group is comprised of some of the most honored and respected musicians in music today. Spearheaded by the collaborative writing style of Williams and Corey King, the band features talented vocalist Chris Turner, the dynamic guitarist Matthew Stevens along with bassist Vicente Archer and Burniss Earl Travis. Extensions of the band include MacAuthor Genius Award winner Jason Moran and staple saxophonist John Ellis. With a new sound and experimental attitude towards the art form ERIMAJ is focused on breaking down the genre walls while still capturing the hearts of the true listener. -[Biography]

Danny Grissett Trio - STRIDE

Danny Grissett Trio -][- STRIDE – [Criss Cross, 2011]

On Stride, his fourth Criss Cross leader date, pianist Danny Grissett returns to the trio format he navigated with such panache and imagination on his first two outings for the label. Longtime bass partner Vicente Archer and top-of-the-class drummer Marcus Gilmore join Grissett in a fluent three-way conversation on a reflective program that incorporates the American Songbook, the European canon, original tunes by trumpeters Nicholas Payton and (his current employer) Tom Harrell, and three heady Grissett originals.

As always, the leader’s playing is melody-driven, harmonically acute, swinging and focused; he again proves himself one of the major voices on his instrument among the under-40 crowd.
